Hongkongers aged 60 or above will need personalised JoyYou Cards for HK$2 fare from Sunday

“The MTR Corp would like to once again remind eligible people who have not yet applied to submit their applications for the JoyYou Card as soon as possible.”

The government came up with the JoyYou Card application scheme in 2022 for residents aged 65 or above, as well as those disabled, to get public transport fare concessions.

After two years of transition, the Transport Department reminded the public on its website that the cards were required for those who would like to enjoy the discount starting Sunday.

If passengers aged 65 or above continue to use existing elderly and personalised Octopus cards to travel on the MTR, the discount provided will only be half the adult fare.

Passengers aged 60 to 64 will need to pay full fare without a JoyYou Card.

The spokesman also told those who already had JoyYou Cards to add value and switch before Sunday to avoid waiting in queues.

First-time JoyYou Card users are required to charge at least HK$50 to activate the HK$2 concession fare, he added.
