I have 3 kids & have only ever bought 3 backpacks – I struck deal that saved me money & taught them a valuable lesson

A FATHER said he's only ever purchased three backpacks for his three children.

The money-saving move was made in an effort to teach the kids a lesson they won't forget.

Redditor Dausenwillis shared the approach in a series of comments on the social media platform.

He explained that he made his kids an offer they couldn't refuse.

"I offered my kids $100 to use the same backpack kindergarten through eighth grade," he said.

He one-upped the offer to make it that much more difficult for the kids to say no.

"If they use the same pack through grade 12 I'll give them $1000," he added.

"I have three kids and I've only ever purchased three backpacks.

"The oldest got both payouts. The middle child has hit the first one. The youngest has a year to go for the first payout."

He said he came up with the idea because he doesn't like paying for things he deems unnecessary.

His child in the 11th grade used the same backpack since kindergarten while his 24-year-old kept his backpack from kindergarten.

The deal was not just for play money, but cash that would go towards their futures.

"I'm basically paying $300 for 3 backpacks as the $1000 must go for college which I already pitch in for," he said.

"It's made my kids very aware of what they buy and if it will last."

He added that the deal helped his kids take care of other items longer, like their clothing.

The long-lasting backpacks came from one store in particular.

"I bought L.L. Bean backpacks and they're damn durable," he revealed.

The L.L.Bean Deluxe Book Pack costs $54.95.

Several Redditors chimed in to give their thoughts and ask questions.

"What happens if it breaks, no fault of the kid's?" one asked.

"Not their fault, as long as I can replace it with the same one," the father replied.

"Yeah they will actively look after their possessions because of this," another said. "A decent lesson."
