Helen Melon (@itshelenmelon) normally shares food reviews and recipes but veered away from her regular content to hop on a viral beauty trend.

In a TikTok video, she recreated a DIY facemask that has been making waves online and dubbed it an "easy at-home secret."

"Let's try the viral flaxseed mask at home for glowy skin. Apparently, it's the best all-natural face mask," she said.

She also wrote in the caption that she "had to try this after seeing SO MUCH hype about it."

It's trending because of its two natural ingredients - flaxseeds and water.

Helen also shared that the area around her mouth gets really dry in the winter, so she wanted to test out the mask's effectiveness.

She explained that there's a right and wrong way to do it and walked viewers through her process.

"You wanna boil two cups of water and put half a cup of flaxseeds in a jar. I don't have one, so I used a temp-safe bowl," she added.

Once the water was boiled, she poured it on top, mixed it, and then let it cool off in the fridge.

Helen later mentioned in a comment that she let it cool for about four to six hours.

"Basically, you wanna do this, instead of boiling the flax seeds on the stove, because doing that can burn and destroy the benefits, which are hydration, reducing redness and puffiness for me," she said.

As an additional tip, she suggested using a cheesecloth as an easier way to strain the seeds.

According to her, it turned out "very ooey, gooey" but thinner than expected and reminded her of snail mucin.

She said that the fact that it was sticky on her face was a "very good sign."

"It did feel like cold snot, though, but trust the process," she added.

In the last step, she let the mask dry for 20 minutes and rinsed it off her face.

"It's super hydrating and my skin soaked it up. I did this two nights in a row, and I did not break out," she said.

Helen gave her "final verdict" toward the end of the video.

"All in all, it's not as miraculous as people say online, but it does work, and it's great for the winter," she divulged.

Many viewers were already sold on the advantages of the DIY facial sludge.

"I do it every single night and never will NOT do it" one commented.

"Started using this yesterday. It made my skin look like glass!!" another wrote.

She admitted that it was super hydrating but not as good as it's made out to be
