Aino Heinäsuo, Head of Design at Redecor, revealed the hacks she swears by to make the most of a smaller space.

For her first tip, she advised homeowners to "remove rather than add" to each room.

The design pro explained that you should start from scratch when it comes to setting up your space.

"Clearing away any excess items creates a clean canvas and will allow you to better envision how to enhance the space," Heinäsuo told The U.S. Sun.

LIVING ROOM

However, she did reveal one item that she recommends adding to your living room to make it feel bigger.

"Adding indoor plants is a super easy way to level up any space," Heinäsuo said.

"They bring in a bit of nature, freshen things up, and set the mood for a more relaxed environment.

"Plus, they make your indoor and outdoor areas feel connected making them seem like one larger space."

KITCHEN

When it comes to your kitchen, Heinäsuo emphasizes the importance of functionality.

"Functionality takes precedence over aesthetics, although the idea is to achieve a harmonious balance between the two," she said.

The interior expert recommended painting your cabinets, describing the task as "perhaps the most effective way to refresh and rejuvenate your kitchen."

"In general, lighter colors let the light bounce more, which makes the room feel lighter and more spacious," Heinäsuo explained.

She added that you can maximize your kitchen's functionality by utilizing wall space.

"Adding hooks for pans and utensils frees up a significant amount of space in cabinets and drawers," she pointed out.

BATHROOM

To make a smaller bathroom seem bigger than it is, Heinäsuo recommends incorporating mirrors into the space.

"Adding mirrors not only tricks the eye into thinking the room is bigger but also helps bounce light around, making the space feel more open and airy," she explained.

Keep window coverings light to let natural light flood in, making your apartment feel brighter and more spacious.

She also suggested utilizing any wall or corner space in your bathroom.

"You'll find there are plenty of stylish bathroom wall shelves that can be used for holding your daily products that not only look great, but also free up space in drawers and on floors," she said.

SMALL APARTMENT

If your home is feeling cramped or tight for space, Heinäsuo shared her overall interior tips.

"Keep window coverings light to let natural light flood in, making your apartment feel brighter and more spacious," she advised.

She also recommended making "small updates" to your space, such as painting a wall.
