Women’s football needs more people like Ian Wright, writes SunSport’s Emilia Hawkins.
England Lioness Eni Aluko accused him of “dominating” punditry in women’s football earlier this week.
But in a world where the “nobody cares” narrative is still all too common, the Arsenal legend remains a huge advocate for the game both on and off our TV screens.
Arsenal have reportedly launched negotiations over landign top Prem target Viktor Gyokeres.
Football Insider say the Gunners’ new sporting director Andrea Berta does not want to waste any time in landing a new source of firepower for the club this summer.
He is said to be a big fan of the Swede, who has scored 47 goals in 46 games in all competitions this season.
Manchester United and Chelsea have been loosely mentioned over Gyokeres. since January.
Mikel Merino’s blossoming Arsenal fortunes have surprised Jamie Carragher.
The Spaniard has been pushed forward from midfield to attack following frontline injuries.
The ex-Liverpool defender told Sky Sports last night: “He is a similar profile to Havertz, Merino.
“Physically, he gives you set-pieces, crashing into the box, making runs.
“He has been great. I looked at him a little bit at the start of the season and wondered if they had brought the wrong type of player.
‘There may still be an argument for that in that Arsenal still lack a bit of creativity, but when you look at what the lad’s done since Havertz got injured, he has been an absolute reservation.
“You would be reluctant to take him out that role if you were Arteta.”
Arsenal 'exploring' move for Nico Williams teammate
During possible scouting trips to watch Nico Williams in action, Arsenal may have identified his Athletic Club teammate Oihan Sancet as a potential transfer target.
And the Gunners are exploring a deal to sign the midfielder this summer, according to Just Arsenal.
The 24-year-old has 15 goals this season.
But Arsenal could be denied the chance to watch him in action against Manchester United in the Europa League semi-final.
That is because he picked up an injury early into the LaLiga clash against Las Palmas with availability now uncertain.
It will be "over between Arsenal and Jorginho in the summer", according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
The 33-year-old midfielder has made 78 appearances in all competitions since joining Arsenal from London rivals Chelsea for £12million in 2023.
But Jorginho’s current contract – which he signed last May – is due to expire at the end of the season.
Arsenal rejected a late approach from Brazilian outfit Flamengo in January, with Arteta keen to keep hold of the Italy international for the second half of the campaign.
Jorginho – who has made just nine league starts this term – was pictured in Rio de Janeiro just last month.
The 33-year-old has been open with his desire to return to the country of his birth in the twilight years of his career.

In case you missed it earlier this afternoon, Arsenal are confident of making Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi their first signing of the summer.
Reports emerged earlier this week that Real Madrid were planning to hijack the move.
But SunSport understands the Gunners still expect Zubimendi, 25, to choose North London instead of Madrid – having been convinced of the Emirates project by boss Mikel Arteta.
Mikel Arteta was left unimpressed as the Gunners twice threw away a lead in their 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace.
The Arsenal boss said: "We dropped our standards today and credit to Crystal Palace.
"We struggled to find consistency in the game. We gave the ball away in simply ways and we were late in everything we did. I am disappointed.
"We have spoke about avoiding our focus being elsewhere. We have enough time to prepare for PSG but today we didn’t deliver enough rights to win the game."
