We live in a 1-bed & wanted our baby to have her own space so turned the cupboard into her room, it’s small but perfect
A MUM has shared how she turned a cupboard in her one-bedroom flat into a bedroom for her baby daughter.
Chelsea showed how the tiny room had been used as a dumping ground for coats and board games.
On her @itsjusttt_chelsea account, she wrote: “POV living in a one bedroom flat with an eight month old and wanted her to have her own precious space.
“We emptied the largest cupboard.
“I put a fresh coat of white paint on the walls.”
She shared how the room looked “refreshed” after the lick of paint.

Chelsea then picked up some adorable cloud-themed book shelves from Studio, which she painted pink for a pop of colour.
They then added a pink design around the top of the walls and put some bear-themed stickers on the wall.
Finally it was time to move the cot in and it slotted in the space.
The mum showed how they added a camera onto the side so they could monitor their daughter when she is sleeping.
As the door is “always open” for ventilation, they painted this the same colour and added a coat hook for extra storage.
Chelsea was delighted with the end result.
She wrote: “Couldn’t be anymore happier with how her bedroom turned out.
“After all the hard work and everyone that helped, my princess finally had a perfect bedroom.”
Explaining why their home only has one bedroom, despite it being a council home, Chelsea claimed: “The council have said she doesn’t qualify as a person till she’s 1 and even then she’s only classed as half a person!”
People were quick to chime in with their views on the bedroom transformation.
One said: “U have done such a good job it looks lovely.”
Another added: “It looks lovely.”
Rules on transforming your council house
According to Gov, the kind of improvements you can make to your council property depends on the type of tenancy you have.
Introductory tenants are usually limited to minor improvements like redecorating inside.
If you’re a secure tenant, you have the right to carry out improvements to your property. These include:
- installing a new bathroom or kitchen
- building an extension
- putting up a garden shed or greenhouse
- installing a new gas fire or fireplace
- cavity wall insulation
- redecorating the outside of a house
- fitting an aerial or satellite dish
You might need your council’s written permission for work you do. Contact your council if you’re not sure.
A third stated: “I'd take the door off.”

Chelsea explained that the door is open 24/7 and the room had been looked over by a health professional.
Typically bedrooms in the UK must have a window to offer natural light, ventilation and a means of escape in case of fire.
