Chilling moment ‘creepy man’s voice’ takes over terrified mum’s baby monitor as her one-year-old son slept
A MUM was left horrified after her young child was woken up in the night by a creepy voice on her flash baby monitor.
Kitty O’Brien, 32, at first thought she was going mad when she heard a man’s gravelly tones booming in her son’s room.
The travel agent went to check on little Jenson, 18 months, after he began crying at around 5am last week.
When she left his room, a voice crackled over her £370 Nanit system, barking "hello".
Stunned Kitty and husband John, of Worcestershire, combed back over the device’s footage to investigate.
They found a voice had been played through their system - and say it is not the first time it has happened.
MORE ON BABIES
Six months ago, the couple heard another male voice on the system, which sounded like a warped prank call.
They believe their expensive bit of "secure" kit was hacked by a troublemaker.
Kitty said: "I couldn't believe my ears. When I listened back to it I realised what had happened. It's horrible.”
The "cutting-edge" Nanit system allows parents to watch their young ones through a smartphone app.
It is meant to be among the most secure of baby monitoring products.
Kooltrade, which owns Nanit, said it had checked its system and no hack had taken place - but admitted its device’s are prone to picking up rogue signals including voices.
A spokesperson told The Sun: "For April 23, we carefully looked at the time that the customer experienced this incident.
"After this, that camera was powered off. We see that during this time period, the speaker was not used, but the microphone did pick up some small activity.
"This has led us to conclude that the AEC (acoustic error cancellation) caused the unidentifiable sound she heard.
"We have shared all of this with the customer and offered to speak directly with her over the phone but have not received a response."
