And it seems Matthew won't have an easy out, as season thirteen has kicked off with him facing extreme financial difficulties.
A recent episode saw the businessman called in to a disastrous board meeting.

Seniors in the company announced that time for redemption was up and Matthew was fired from his position.
To make matters worse, his mother decided that his salary would be stopped effective immediately, leaving him with nothing.
The overwhelmed man had to explain the difficult situation to wife Trixie at home after she went to a dealership to pick up their new car and was told there wasn't one in stock for her.
Although the nurse was supportive, he turned on her in a moment of stress, complaining about her spending habits.
The argument left the couple in tears, and Trixie also became worried for the fate of Nonnatus house after discovering it was still one of Matthew's assets and could potentially be seized.
Alarmed viewers have been left concerned that the extent of Matthew's financial difficulties might lead to him taking his own life, and begged show bosses to go easy on the character.
One fan warned: "If I’m right about Matthew’s suicide then I am done.. He is a GREAT CHARACTER!!!"
Another hit out: "Matthew is the best character and deserved the world. Not this terrible story."
A third queried: "Why did they have to give trixie this sad storyline, like why couldn't they just let trixie and matthew be HAPPY and rich?"
Someone else was left concerned about Matthew potentially having a health condition, saying: "Oh god-That went down like a balloon-Another reason to panic about Matthew! He was clutching his head again after shouting at Trixie just now. #CallTheMidwife"
