My 15-year-old girl was raped by an illegal immigrant – he was granted BAIL then fled the country, my blood is boiling

THE mum of a 15-year-old rape victim slammed law chiefs who allowed the illegal immigrant who attacked her to flee Scotland.

And she revealed she was “disgusted” at not being told for three years that sex fiend Marwan Al-Bakr, 32, had headed to Germany after being granted bail.

The shocked parent, 40, said a mammoth wait for justice — due to an 18-month extradition battle — left her daughter devastated.

Syrian-born Al-Bakr was nabbed by cops soon after he’d attacked the schoolgirl in Toryglen, Glasgow, in February 2022.

But her family had not known until the case called at court this month that he’d then absconded.

The mum said: “Up until then I’d been led to believe he hadn’t been found straight away — and it was only when he was discovered in a German detention centre that he was arrested and charged.

“But after finding out the truth, my blood is boiling. I’m disgusted.

“We’ve been lied to — it’s a kick in the teeth. We have no faith in the justice system.”

She added: “Why was he able to flee the country three days after he’d raped my daughter?”

Vile Al-Bakr denied rape but a jury convicted him earlier this month  at Livingston’s High Court.

However, the victim’s mum said the long delay before the brute was nailed has mentally broken her girl, now 19.

She explained: “For anyone to have that hanging over them is awful. She was worried she wasn’t going to be believed in court.

“And the fact he pled not guilty, despite clear-cut DNA evidence and CCTV footage, is  so cruel.

“It made her go through a trial and give evidence. Anger doesn’t even describe how I feel.

“The law should be changed so rape victims don’t have to go through all that when there’s such strong evidence.”

University graduate Al-Bakr was seeking asylum in the UK after claiming he’d been trafficked “by force” from Ireland to Scotland.

BEAST ON RUN

FEBRUARY 14, 2022: Syrian uni student Marwan Al-Bakr, 32, lures vulnerable 15-year-old schoolgirl away from a bus stop after dark, before raping her at a grassy area in Toryglen, Glasgow.
DAYS AFTER ATTACK: Sex fiend is arrested and charged. He appears in court — and is granted bail.

A jury heard the schoolgirl was reported missing by her mum after she failed to return home following a row.

She slept on steps at Hampden Stadium before meeting Al-Bakr at a nearby bus stop.

The stranger used a translation app to try to talk to the teen before raping her.

His distraught victim borrowed a pal’s phone to alert her mum.

The parent recalled: “She said, ‘Mum, I’m so sorry, I’ve been raped.’ I phoned the police then ran to where she was.

“The police were already there and I was told not to touch her — so I couldn’t even cuddle her.”

Al-Bakr was remanded in custody until sentencing on May 6.

But the mum said: “This totally changed my daughter. She used to be quite bubbly, but was left terrified to go out. And he still has nightmares.”

Tory MSP Sharon Dowey said: “It’s appalling that this dangerous offender evaded justice for so long.

“His brave victim and her family deserve to know why he  was able to flee abroad with such ease.”

A Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service spokeswoman said: “As proceedings are ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment.”
