Referee Darren England was talking to Steve Cooper and Sean Dyche in the tunnel and the official was also testing the pitch by bouncing a ball on it.

The players were lining the tunnel as torrential poured down over the East Midlands.

Lightning also flashed over the opening half as Everton went 1-0 up after a brilliant Iliman Ndiaye finish.

But after five minutes of waiting for the heavens to stop opening, match officials were forced into resuming the 3pm blackout tie.

Fans can barely see the action as the thunderstorm continues.

And both sets of players are completely soaked, with Everton's white shirts almost see-through.

There were fears at half-time that the game could be abandoned.
