Hallie Biden, the widow of Beau Biden, told the courtroom at the J. Caleb Boggs Federal Building in Wilmington, Delaware, on Thursday how Hunter, 54, introduced her to crack during their brief relationship.

'It was a terrible experience that I went through, and I'm embarrassed, and I'm ashamed of that period of my life," Hallie said on the stand.

Hallie, 50, said she became romantically involved with Hunter after the death of his brother, Beau, who died of brain cancer in 2015.

She described her relationship with Hunter as "volatile" and "on and off."

The mom-of-two went into detail about the October 23, 2018, date when she uncovered the Colt .38 revolver in Hunter's pickup truck outside her home in Delaware.

I panicked and I wanted to get rid of it.

Hallie said she frequently cleared his vehicle of drugs and alcohol.

"I panicked, and I wanted to get rid of it," Hallie said on the stand of the gun.

"I didn't want him to hurt himself, and I didn't want my kids to find it and hurt themselves."

The federal courtroom was shown a surveillance video of Hallie of the moment when she disposed of the gun in a trash can at a grocery store about a mile away from her home.

The video showed Hallie exiting her BMW as she arrived in the parking lot of Janseen's Market in Delaware on October 23, 2018.

She is seen with a purple-colored shopping bag in her hand and, moments later, disposes of it in the trash can.

"I was afraid to touch it. I didn't know if it was loaded," Hallie testified.

"I realize it was a stupid idea now, but I was panicking."

A second video showed Hallie returning to the grocery store and searching for the bag inside the trash.
