Hong Kong police hunt for assailants behind road ambush that left 1 man injured
The masked assailants all fled in the black vehicle after the attack, leaving the seven-seater behind to cut off the other car, the insider said.
Officers have mounted a search for the suspects. No arrests have been made so far.
The victim suffered injuries to his hands and was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment, while the 26-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz was unhurt in the knife attack.
The insider said the victim worked at a construction site and the driver was a salesman.
Officers arrested the driver for allegedly possessing an illegal drug after discovering suspected crystal meth in the car.
Police said they were still determining the exact amount and street value of the suspected narcotics.
According to the force, the vehicle abandoned at the scene was fitted with fake number plates.
“Officers also seized a machete and a retractable baton, along with some number plates [in the abandoned vehicle],” the source said.

The insider said efforts to trace the assailants and those behind the knife attack were ongoing.
Detectives from the Yau Tsim criminal investigation unit are handling the case.
Police handled 558 reports of wounding last year, compared with the 565 cases recorded in 2022.
