The sporting director is already on gardening leave from Newcastle but the club want £20million in compensation for him.

  • Neto transfer blow

Wolves boss Gary O’Neill is determined to keep hold of Manchester United transfer target Pedro Neto.

I have been asked a few times about the summer already. I am not interested in discussing Pedro Neto leaving the football club.

He is a fantastic player that we spent a lot of money on and have worked very hard on.

As far as I am concerned we do not want to lose our best players. We have a long way to go yet this season and hopefully he stays with us.

  • Clattenburg slams Neville

Mark Clattenburg has hit back at Manchester United legend Gary Neville and accused him of hypocrisy after the pundit spoke out about his new job.

The former Premier League referee has been hired as Nottingham Forest's new adviser.

Neville claimed that Clattenburg's move, which will see him advising Forest regarding refs' decisions, was "disappointing" and “a step too far”.

I am disappointed that Gary Neville has come out with what he said.

His employer, Sky Sports, employs ex-referees to help fans and viewers understand the Laws of the Game, and Nottingham Forest are just doing the same.

  • The Main man

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has urged England manager Gareth Southgate to pick Manchester United ace Kobbie Mainoo in his next squad.

Kobbie Mainoo has to be in the next England squad.

Such maturity in chaotic conditions that we've not seen from a England player in a long time.

Impressed every time I watch him

  • Edwards on Casemiro

Luton Town manager Rob Edwards was adamant that Manchester United star Casemiro should've been sent off for two yellow cards after a challenge on Ross Barkley went unpunished.

The midfielder was subbed off after 45 minutes by United boss Erik ten Hag.

The fact that he came off at half-time might be a little bit of a telltale sign to how I feel about that one.

I'm not going to complain about it right now.

  • Lost his Ed

Luton Town manager Rob Edwards made a cheeky dig at Manchester United and the officials after Sunday's 2-1 loss to Erik ten Hag's men.

Edwards was left fuming during his post-match press conference over what he deemed as a lack of stoppage time added on at the end.

t was like back to last season that weren't it - I don't know where that one came from.

Man Utd are winning 2-1, so it's four minutes.

  • Evans' nickname for Hojlund

Manchester United ace Jonny Evans' nickname for Rasmus Hojlund has left fans in hysterics.

Hojlund shared a series of snaps on Instagram after Sunday's 2-1 win at Luton Town, with his team-mates flooding the comments with support.

However, it was Evans' reaction which stood out as the defender wrote: "Class Millsy."

The nickname is a reference to Sean Mills, who Hojlund was cruelly compared to earlier this season.

  • Style it out

Manchester United legend Gary Neville apologised live on air to Harry Styles after failing to recognise the pop star on Sunday.

I’ve got to get into the studio and try and resurrect the fact I didn’t recognise Harry Styles before the game because I’ve never seen him dress so smartly.

He walked in with the Luton owners and I thought he was actually one of the director’s sons.

[Did he recognise me?] No! Not that I’d want him to recognise me, he’s a United fan so he may have done.

I’m totally embarrassed, I’m shocked. My two girls will be horrified, mortified with me. I’m really sorry Harry, I really am.

  • More from Neville

Manchester United legend Gary Neville doubled down on his criticism of the Glazers for not making key appointments in the last 10 years.

It was getting to the point where we were getting mocked for mentioning the Glazers every time Man Utd lost a football match. People would say ‘Well the Glazers aren’t the ones playing football’.

But for 10 years, every Manchester United manager operated without a CEO, without a sporting director, without a director of football.

That is madness, forget negligence, that’s just madness.

Obviously Sir Jim Ratcliffe is coming in and appointing a CEO that has actually been at a football club before and everyone is applauding him for it - that’s staggering.

I can’t believe it hasn’t happened already, it’d never be allowed to happen at another club in the country.

  • Neville slams Glazers again

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has accused the Glazers of "playing Football Manager".

They have shown blind loyalty to people who have been really good to them over a long period of time.

Ed Woodward was at the club for 10-12 years, they have believed everything he said.

It was a little bit like they were playing Football Manager.

We can literally go and look at the best players without having serious people operating the club.

  • Halsey on Casemiro

Former Premier League referee Mark Halsey claims Manchester United star Casemiro was fortunate not to get sent off during Sunday's win at Luton Town.

You could argue that Casemiro was fortunate not to have been shown a second yellow card.

Having been cautioned moments earlier, he fouled Luton’s Ross Barkley.

But not every foul is a yellow card and maybe that was his last chance.

Erik ten Hag subbed him at half-time before he was sent off, because his next foul would have resulted in a red card.

You’re looking at four or five careless fouls before you get a caution for persistently infringing the laws of the game.

  • David de Gea Exclusive

Manchester United legend David de Gea is focusing on staying in Spain while ending his football exile.

De Gea has had interest from the Premier League and Saudi Arabia since his Old Trafford deal ran out last summer.

But sources close to the 33-year-old believe he is willing to wait for a chance to play in LaLiga.

That could mean joining former club Atletico Madrid or even rivals Real Madrid as cover in goal.

The former Spain international is a free agent and could answer any emergency call outside of the transfer window.

  • Luke Shaw injury update

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag could not confirm the nature or severity of Luke Shaw's injury but admitted "it doesn’t look great".

Shaw limped out during Sunday's 2-1 win at Luton Town just before half-time.

The left-back has a long injury history that began after he joined United in 2014.

    I can’t tell.

We have to wait minimum until tomorrow to see what’s going on.

Clear, when you come off, it doesn’t look great.

  • Dan Ashworth release clause

Manchester United face a £20million price tag to lure Newcastle sporting director Dan Ashworth to Old Trafford.

Ashworth asked to leave St James' Park following his side's 2-2 draw with Bournemouth on Saturday.

However, the Magpies will demand a compensation fee should he move before the end of his contract.

    The ex-Brighton chief's current contract doesn't expire until 2026.

According to The Telegraph, the Toon will demand a package of at least £20m if the Red Devils want him to start work before the stipulated length of his gardening leave.

  • Hazard discusses Man Utd interest

Former Chelsea star Eden Hazard has revealed that Manchester United were one of the clubs he was considering joining after deciding to leave Lille in 2012.

The Red Devils manager at the time Sir Alex Ferguson took regular trips to France to watch the Belgian in action and also spoke with him.

However, Hazard toldThe Obi One Podcast: “I think the last year with Lille in France, I had all the managers trying to call me or my agent,” Hazard revealed.

“I had a chat with Sir Alex Ferguson. I spoke with Harry Redknapp, at that time he was the manager in Tottenham. I went to Manchester to see the Man City training ground, and I spoke with Mancini.

“I had like a few options but not Chelsea, because in my last year in Lille, Chelsea in the league were not that good. When they won the Champions League, in the Premier League, they were like 6th or 7th, I don’t remember."

  • Scholes confused by 'weird' United

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes labelled his former side ‘weird’ after they beat Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.

He said of the performance: "Weird team Utd…reckon they could be the only team that could win 5-0 and get hammered."

  • Shearer tips Mainoo for England

Alan Shearer believes Manchester United youngster Kobbie Mainoo could be in line for a surprise England call-up ahead of Euro 2024.

He said of Mainoo on The Rest is Football Podcast: “Very, very good player.

“The pressure that comes with playing for such a huge football club and the way he has just come in and just handled it so easily has to be a great positive. He has to be in his [Southgate’s] thoughts.”

  • Ten Hag offers Shaw update

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has admitted that Luke Shaw’s latest injury setback “doesn’t look great” after he was forced off again against Luton.

The England left-back looked to have shaken off a knock that saw him withdrawn at half-time of last weekend’s dramatic 2-1 victory at Aston Villa as a “precaution”, starting Sunday’s clash with the Hatters at Kenilworth Road.

However, Shaw was replaced by Victor Lindelof again just before the break against Luton having felt the unspecified issue once more.

When asked about the injury Ten Hag responded: "I can’t tell. We have to wait minimum until tomorrow to see what’s going on.

"Clear, when you come off, it doesn’t look great."
