Major European football league renamed after McDonald’s as fans joke ‘man of the match will win a happy meal’

FANS have been left in hysterics after Ligue 1 announced its new title sponsor.

From next season, the division will be called the "Ligue 1 McDonald's".

It sees French football stick with the tasty theme as the league is currently sponsored by Uber Eats.

McDonald's have agreed a three-year deal with chiefs, meaning they will partner it until the 2027/28 campaign.

Reports suggest the agreement is worth £17million-a-year.

The announcement was made by the French FA, with the Ligue 1 trophy placed outside one of their fast-food restaurants.

Fans have been left in stitches over sponsorship move, with one saying: "They really took farmers league personal."

Another added: "The French league is not serious."

A third joked: "Man of the match will now get a happy meal rather than a trophy."

More laughed: "McLeague."

And others commented: "Now I know why Kylian Mbappe decided to leave."

The sponsorship deal is the second major change to Ligue 1 in recent years after the division was recently cut from 20 to 18 teams.

Paris Saint-Germain are on course to win their tenth title in the last 12 years.
