Fuming pop fans demand their money back after ‘chaotic and late’ show branded ‘the Willy Wonka Experience’ of gigs

POP star Sky Ferreira left fans in Manchester fuming after a performance dubbed the ‘Willy Wonka experience of gigs’.

The 31-year-old singer, who shot to fame in 2013 with the release of her album ‘Night Time, My Time’, has gained a cult following in the years since - though has also gained a reputation of late stage arrivals and cutting short shows due to venue curfews.

On Sunday night, as her UK tour hit the O2 Ritz Manchester, fans turned on the singer as she arrived late once again on stage.

Rather than follow the schedule, Sky posted a photograph on her Instagram Stories warning fans that she would not be getting on stage until “after 9.30pm”.

The picture itself was a sign warning attendees that “crowd surfers will be removed from the venue”.

By the time she eventually did, fans had become impatient and wanted to know what was going on.

In videos posted on fan sites, Sky, pictured in a zebra print jacket, was seen nonchalantly shrugging towards the audience before striding off the stage after being cut off before her set was finished.

Other videos saw a fan declare they had ‘come from China’ in order to be there for a song and she wasn’t able to perform it.

As the videos and clips started to circulate, fans came together to discuss Sky’s behaviour, split between their love for the singer and their growing annoyance at her ‘disrespectful’ attitude to fans who have paid money to see her perform.

Others compared it to the now infamous 'Willy Wonka Experience' in Glasgow, where fans shelled out £40 each for entrance to a chocolate factory experience that was, in essence, a practically empty hanger with badly-dressed cast members handing out jellybeans and tiny cups of lemonade.

“it really annoys me when artists show up inexplicably late for gigs and then get themselves cut off by curfews,” one fan wrote. “it shows complete disrespect to their fans and staff, and is utterly unprofessional.”

“Love her to death and always will but she is so unprofessional when it comes to ALWAYS coming on super late and it’s kinda rude to all her fans coming to see her since she is LUCKY she still got a fan base with ONE album in the past 11 years.”

“sky ferreira in manchester tonight.:: why did she even bother coming,” said a third.

However, others seemed to embrace the chaos of the concert, noting that after years of the behaviour, it’s ‘expected’ of Sky at this point, and should therefore be considered ‘part of the experience’ you pay for.

“I’m actually fully satisfied with my sky ferreira experience… like I never thought it’d even happen and i got the full shebang,” one wrote. Noting on a checklist she was an hour late, was cut off, complained about the lighting, restarted a song and, yet, still served.

“no shade but this is the sky ferreira willy wonka experience he should’ve known what he signed up for,” said another fan in response to the video of the person declaring they’d come from China.

“Frankly if I went to Sky Ferreira gig I'd be mad if this didn't happen,” added a third.
