I didn’t want a mortgage so live in a caravan I bought for £5.5k – we save so much money we can go on holidays & eat out

A MAN who moved into a caravan has opened up about the decision behind his big move – and why he’s been in the money ever since.

A social media user who goes by the name of Rude bought a caravan for £5.5k after deciding he would be better off without forking out on a mortgage.

And he’s not looked back since, as he said his new property has totally transformed his life for the better.

Rude, who can be found on TikTok via @byrude, took part in a question and answer session on his profile after he revealed that his followers all wanted to know the same thing.

The question? How much the caravan set him back and how it’s affected his finances since.

In a video where he stood outside of the caravan, he explained: “This one cost us five and a half grand.

“But I have seen them a lot cheaper and also a lot more expensive – I’ve even seen them for free if you can pay for removal”

Rude went on to say: “Another big question we get asked is, ‘why would we live like this when we could just go and rent a house?’

“Why would we put ourselves through the cold winters?

He replied: “Well, for us, it’s part of a much bigger plan, which is allowing us to save money a lot quicker.”

And he said that it’s working a treat as he’d already managed to do just that, while not sacrificing on anything else.

He went on: “We’ve just bought a bus which we are converting, so we’re able to do that – and go on holiday and eat out quite a lot and live a pretty good lifestyle, considering the economy.

Rude also took the opportunity to give his advice to anyone who was looking to follow in his footsteps and make a caravan their home.

He said: “We’re fortunate enough that this land was supplied to us by family.

“It was disused, it was a mess, we had to tidy it up, but we were lucky enough that it came through.

“But if you’re looking for a patch of land somewhere, these types of lands aren’t usually advertised on the internet.

“They’re usually looked at as just pointless or unused by the person that owns them and they’ve never thought to rent them out.”

He continued: “So my suggestion would be – word of mouth. Put a few posts out on Facebook, ask family, friends

“Even go and ask farmers as there might be a corner of their field that they’re just not using that they’d be willing to rent out for a small price a month.”
