M&S warns shoppers face DAYS of disruption after cyber ‘incident’ plunging contactless payments & deliveries into chaos
M&S has warned that shoppers may face days of disruption following a cyber "incident" that has plunged contactless payments and deliveries into chaos.
The mysterious issue began on Monday - as confused customers were turned away at tills.
They were told the company was making some "small change to our store operations" following an IT outage - that would temporarily affect contactless payments as well as click-and-collect orders.
In an update, shared to Instagram this evening, an M&S spokesperson wrote: "We promised to keep you informed about the cyber incident that has led to disruption to some services.
"You can continue to shop in our stores, on our website and through our app but there may be some changes which may inconvenience you over the coming days.
"In particular, we are currently not processing contactless payments and there is disruption to the collection of Click and Collect orders in our stores.
"Serving our customers, and protecting our business is our priority, and we are working incredibly hard to restore our services.
"We are really sorry for any inconvenience and we'll continue to keep you updated.
"Thank you for shopping with us and for your continued support.
"We appreciate your patience and understanding. From the M&S team."
In an original statement, M&S Chief Executive Stuart Machin wrote: "I'm writing to you to let you know that over the last few days M&S has been managing a cyber incident.
"To protect you and the business, it was necessary to temporarily make some small changes to our store operations, and I am sincerely sorry if you experiences any inconvenience.
"Importantly, our stores remain open, and our website and App are operating as normal.
"There is no need for you to take any action at this time and if the situation changes, we will let you know."
One shopper posted: "Couldn't collect my order. I appreciate your response".
"I wish I’d known this before I travelled to return and collect a parcel and buy 2 gift cards for birthdays. Please inform us when everything is back up and running," slammed another.
A third joked: "On no is Percy okay?"
