I worry the white-ish dress I got is inappropriate for a wedding – people say I shouldn’t wear it but the bride approves
A WEDDING guest has purchased a dress that's a bit too close to white for comfort.
People warned her of the fashion faux pas, but she insists the bride signed off on it.
Sydney Borden (@syd.borden) filmed herself talking about the controversial dress in a video on TikTok.
She spoke in front of a green screen with a picture of a long floral gown behind her.
"Is this appropriate to wear to a wedding or is this white?" she said.
"I was online shopping in the middle of the night last night, and I ordered this from The Real Real.
"And I woke up this morning and I was like, it's kind of white, right?"
She explained the dress code of the matrimonial event.
"The objective is a floral, formal floor length gown. That's a mouthful," she said.
"Vibe was floral, formal, floor-length floral gown, formal and I was like, this perfect. Add to cart. Bye.
"And then I was like, oh, s**t. Is that okay? I can return it, but thoughts?"
The dress is called the Mac Duggal Floral Print Long Dress from The Real Real, currently sold out but was on sale for $460.
"Is this wedding guest appropriate or nah?" she asked in the caption.
"It’s not white but it feels very bridal. Depends on how chill the bride is," one viewer commented.
"She said it’s OK," Borden replied. "I think her dress is even more extravagant and gorgeous so this one’s OK."
"It might photograph a bit whiter, especially if you're in the sun at all," another said.
"Oh that’s a good point," Borden wrote back. "If it looks white in the sun I won’t wear it. I’ll bring a backup."
"Absolutely not for a wedding guest but any other elegant event? Yes it’s stunning," a third commented.
"No, different base color would be fine," Borden responded.
