People say I should sue my sister after the stunt she pulled with my $3,500 wedding dress – I sobbed for weeks
ONE bride was left in tears after being betrayed by her own sister over her wedding dress.
She still couldn't believe how the dress disaster went down - and some people thought her cries warranted a legal case.
DREAM DRESS
Redditor jojobee112 explained how she and her sister, who got engaged within mere months of each other, knew they would both be responsible for the bills related to their wedded bliss.
She and her partner even waited years to tie the knot so that she could have her "true dream wedding."
And there was something she was not willing to compromise on.
"The one thing I wanted to be absolutely perfect was my dress," she said.
"I've always had issues with my self-esteem, so I wanted to feel like a million bucks," she added.
She wound up splurging over $3,500 for an embroidered gown complete with beading.
After showing images of the dress to her family, her sister was such a fan of the style that she wound up giving her the name of the store where she had purchased it.
According to her sister, the dress wasn't available in her size, and alterations proved to be out of her bridal budget, prompting her to find her own gown.
Lucky for our original bride, her grandmother was willing to make some tailoring tweaks for free.
Before making any adjustments, however, she wanted to take a peek at the gown, but couldn't get to her home.
ALL TORN UP INSIDE
As luck would have it, they would both be in attendance at an upcoming family function, so she decided to bring it with her.
While waiting for Grandmom to appear, her cousin thought it was best to keep the dress safe from her cats in her son's nursery.
She waited downstairs with the rest of the family, but when the child started to cry, her sister offered to go check on him.
She could never have guessed what would happen next.
"Maybe ten to fifteen minutes later, my sister comes downstairs with the baby, saying that one of the cats got to my dress while the door was open and it's all torn up," she said.
"I went upstairs, and sure enough, the bodice was torn right in half in the front, with the beads everywhere, embroidery wrecked, and the skirt ripped up. All I could do was cry," she continued.
Worst of all, the damage was beyond the repair skills of her grandmother, and the estimate to fix it was out of her budget.
Even if she did pay up, her wedding would have either had to be delayed by at least six months, or they wouldn't be able to use their photographer.
MASTERMIND
It became obvious that her sister had devised a sneaky plan all along.
"I couldn't even get a new dress without selling it, and my sister offered to take it off my hands for two-thirds the original price since it was so damaged," she said.
She wound up giving it to her and then buying a much less expensive, simpler dress, that she "didn't love."
Meanwhile, she explained how her sister had "part of the dress repaired, turning the rip in the front into a dip neckline."
She also covered the skirt with more material.
"It looked nice, and she got married," she said.
And the dress drama didn't end there.
TRUTH COMES OUT
At another family holiday event, her cousin had done some of her own digging and presented her with some recordings from her son's baby monitor.
She showed her a video from the very day the dress was destroyed.
"My sister went into the room, gave the baby a pacifier, and hacked at my dress with a pair of scissors," she said.
"Once she'd made some marks on it, she ripped it up with her hands, then grabbed my cousin's son, and told me about it," she added.
"She ruined my wedding dress so she could have it. She did it on purpose."
Despite not having the closest relationship, she still couldn't believe that her own sister could sabotage her like this.
"I don't even know what to do. I'm livid. I sobbed for weeks over that dress, I walked down the aisle feeling like I was a second choice because of what she did," she said.
TAKE IT TO COURT
Some people thought she should dry her tears and demand retribution.
"Oh wow. I am so, so sorry that you’re having to go through this," said one reader.
They said they would take that video and "file in small claims court/press charges."
"And then I’d cut contact. She’s shown you that she’s exceedingly selfish, cruel — frankly, evil. And I wouldn’t want to be associated with her any longer, at least not for a really long time," they said.
"Make sure your parents see the footage as well, so they understand your decision to cut her out," they added.
Others felt the same way - this would be one sympathetic jury on the case.
"Agreed, if small claims court is available to you, sue for the $3,500. It usually costs very little to file a suit there," another user wrote.
Yet some didn't want her to stop short of just recouping her original loss.

"Might make it more difficult/expensive but if I were you I'd sue her for the cost of the second dress and emotional hardship as well," said one reader.
"Your relationship is past the point that of saving - in my opinion - so kick her as hard as you can," they added.
