I upgraded my fixer-upper with a front porch makeover – my DIY floor design cost less than $50, I love the new aesthetic
A DIY fan has pushed the boat out with her front porch makeover.
She upgraded her fixer-upper with a fantastic mosaic-type effect.
But you don't need deep pockets for her floor design.
This clever idea transformed the porch area for less than $50.
She was delighted with the finished look and loved the new aesthetic.
There was much interest in That Mom's (@thatonediymom) post.
So far, over 15,000 viewers have tuned in to see this glow-up.
Our DIY queen is no stranger to DIY projects and shares her room transformations on TikTok.
For this project, she started with a blank canvas, a tired-looking porch, which was ripe for an upgrade.
STEP 1:
First, everything was stripped back, literally.
The floor paint was diligently scraped back, a painstaking task.
Getting this part of the project right was important to prepare the groundwork for step 2.
STEP 2:
After sweeping up the dirt, she applied patio paint with a roller.
Allow enough time to let the paint dry out completely before starting the next step, the star of the show.
STEP 3:
A stencil was used for the next part of the transformation.
It created a pattern block across the painted patio floor.
The stencil could be washed and reused.
STEP 4:
The posts were refurbished and secured into the concrete.
Budget interior design tips
Interior designer Judy Hoang shared her furniture tips with The U.S. Sun.
- Thrift furniture and paint it to match your decor.
- Test if an item is fit for its purpose before thrifting.
- Shop at Target or HomeGoods for rugs, lamps, desks, and pillows.
- Invest in classic timeless pieces.
- Set up smart home lighting to save money.
STEP 5:
Once the essentials were completed, it was time for the fun part - styling the porch.
There was a lot of love for this porch upgrade, but some commenters queried the cost.
“Under $50. That wood wasn’t under $50 ain't no way,” said one person.
But she clarified her budget.
"I was referring to the patio, paint, and supplies only. I would estimate an extra $50 for the wood for the posts," she said.
Other viewers experienced porch envy.
"I want to stencil something so bad. Your whole redo is fabulous," said one fan.
