Net zero boiler tax which risks hitting hard-pressed Brits with £120 hike to be scrapped
THE net zero boiler tax which risks hitting struggling bill-payers with a £120 hike is for the chop.
Energy Secretary Claire Coutinho is looking at axing green targets on boiler producers which will punish the slow roll out of eco heat pumps.
From April, manufacturers must see four per cent of their gas boiler sales replaced by environment-friendly electric alternatives, or face fines.
Firms would have to pay £3,000 for every installation that fell short — with consumers already facing a price hikes to pay for the hefty levies.
Earlier tonight, a climbdown on the targets was not denied in Whitehall — if the industry agrees to stop hiking prices now.
No final decision has been made.

Ms Coutinho is due to meet with industry leaders in the coming weeks.
A Government source told The Sun: “Rather than whacking hardworking families with extra costs and forcing them to make changes, we need to support them.
“That’s why we made our Boiler Uplift Scheme one of the most generous in Europe.”
