We’re interiors experts & here are nine easy updates to give your home a summer makeover that will only cost you pennies
IF spring's all about cleaning then summer is the time for a home makeover.
According to experts, the sunshine season is the perfect chance to refresh your living spaces without breaking the bank.
So why not give your home a vibrant update to reflect the better weather?
Here, interiors experts Olivia Crosher of Naturewall and Faye Leeming of Where Saints Go share nine easy hacks to give your home a summer makeover.
And the best part is the tricks will only cost you pennies.
Remove Rugs
Olivia said: “Take away rugs to open up the rooms and reveal the hard floors beneath.
"Not only will this give the room a new look for summer, it will also help create a cooler feeling.
"Plus, it’ll make it easier to clean your floors as people move in and out of the house during the warmer months.”
Second-Hand Glassware
“Pick up some second-hand glassware and dishes for outdoor entertaining", Olivia also suggests.
"You can often find hidden gems in charity shops and car-boot sales, and going for a colourful mismatched aesthetic gives a laid-back vibe for the summer.
"Plus, you can collect pieces gradually, which is a cheap and sustainable way to shop.”
Revamp Furniture
Olivia revealed: “Give hand-me-downs a new lease of life. It’s easy to overlook furniture that may have seen better days, but instead of buying new, restore what you already have or have picked up from a charity or salvage shop.
"Simply sand, stain, or paint your wooden items to give them a facelift. If you’re feeling bold, opt for a bright colour to make a feature.”
Let in the Light
“Consider removing curtains and blinds in your living areas. This will really open the space", advised Olivia.
"Plus, it will give your spaces a light and airy feel, and allow the sunshine to flood these spaces.”
Add Greenery
Olivia said: “Adding greenery is a cheap but impactful way to inject life and colour into your space.
"Bring the outside in by foraging for seasonal flowers and stems to create a floral arrangement as a centrepiece on a coffee table, dining table, or kitchen island.”
Clear the Clutter
Faye insisted: “De-cluttering is a great way to level up your home this summer. If it doesn’t bring you aesthetic joy, get rid.
"Donate it to your favourite charity or pop it onto a local giveaway group.
"After all, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, and you are also passing it forward or helping a much-needed charity. The perfect summer feel-good factor!”
Showcase Your Personality
Faye said: “Pick your favourite homewares and put them centre stage.
"Curate your own collection in groups of three or five and incorporate pieces of different heights and textures to give an elevated feel.”
