Tumbleweed invades streets in Utah and Nevada

Towns in Utah have been overtaken by an invasion of tumbleweed, with homes surrounded by piles as high as three metres in places.

Homeowners in the US have been waking up to the sight of tumbleweed sweeping through their towns in recent days.

Whilst locals in Utah have had problems with the issue in the past, they said that it had never been this bad.

Images showed the driveways of homes in Eagle Mountain clogged up with the plant - and vehicles buried.

In places, the tumbleweed reached the rooftops.

Utah isn't the only state affected, with some towns in neighbouring Nevada also hit by the tumbleweed invasion.

It comes as the US national weather service issued high wind warnings for parts of Nevada, Arizona and California.
