Not only this, but if you buy a real tree, and want to ensure it stays looking full and fresh throughout the festive season, there’s a quick tip that you’ll need to know.

Savvy mum Shannon Doherty took to social media to share her Christmas tree hacks, leaving many open-mouthed.

The ‘super mum’ of four explained: “Five genius hacks for setting up your Christmas tree.”

Shannon’s first hack ensures your floor will stay protected from your Christmas tree, as she advised: “Protect floors with a waterproof mat or plastic tablecloth under the tree.

"Also put felt protectors on the stand.”

For those that want to make your tree last longer, Shannon then shared her simple trick.

She explained: “It needs a gallon of water every day.”

She also recommended: “Add sugar and pennies to the water to keep germs away.”

If you want to make your tree look fuller, Shannon shared her quick tip, as she suggested: “Use artificial garlands around the tree to make the tree look fuller.”

Not only this, but before you get too eager and add your lights, Shannon explained: “Plug lights In BEFORE you put them on the tree so you know where they are going and how they look.”

Finally, it turns out that there’s a better and easier way to add lights to your tree - and it doesn’t involve doing laps around the room, as Shannon wrote: “Hang lights up and down the tree instead of around the tree.”

Rather than walking around the tree adding lights, Shannon explained doing it this way is “easier to take down and easier to replace a bulb if you lose one."

She then added: "Also uses less lights and looks really good.”

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @athomewithshannon, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly amassed 54,100 views.

Social media users were impressed with Shannon’s tips and were keen to express this in the comments.

One person said: “Wish I would’ve seen this before I spent hours wrapping my tree in lights.”

Another added: “So genius!”
