According to research by Homebrite, the problem is huge - an staggering 58 per cent - or 2.7 million - of privately rented households in the UK are dealing with damp, mould and/or excessive cold.

Not only can it make for an unsightly mess, but mould can also lead to a number of health-related issues, such as a runny rose, sneezing, red eyes and skin rash.

The NHS warned that those particularly vulnerable are people with respiratory problems, respiratory infections, allergies or asthma, as well as babies and the elderly.

Although there are several easy ways to tackle the problem - such as investing in a dehumidifier or switching the heating on - many cash-strapped families cannot afford these methods due to the rising costs.

Luckily, one social media user, only known as Grace, has come to rescue with an easy hack that will banish grim mould around your bath with no effort.

According to the cleaning whizz, better known to her fans as @homethirty_one on TikTok, the answer is simple and requires just two common household items - a bit of bleach, as well as cotton pads.

The steps are also straightforward as you soak the cotton pads with regular thick bleach and apply them to the mould-infested areas, where you let them do their magic overnight as you sleep.

After waking up and removing the wet cotton pads from her bath, Grace was amazed to see the black mould spots had vanished completely - and all of this with no vigorous scrubbing involved.

However, whilst some thanked the cleaning fanatic for the trick, others were not so convinced and raced to warn fellow social media users to steer clear of the hack.

One explained: ''Bleach changes the colour but the mould actually feeds on the bleach, so it will always return but worse!''

Someone else agreed, adding: ''Bleach is actually the worst thing you could use, makes the mould come back because it has water in it. Use hydrogen peroxide or white vinegar.''

''Bicarbonate soda and apple cider vinegar,'' another advised an effective remedy.

''It definitely works, I've tried it,'' a cleaning fan also praised the bleach hack.

''I need to try this!'' a TikTok user chimed in.
