Bobby had previously revealed that if he got through to the Couple's Choice section of the show he would dedicate the dance to his mother, who died of cervical cancer when he was only five.

Talking about his choice of tune on spin-off show It Takes Two, he told viewers: "I’ve always thought it's the perfect song, the way he sings it the lyrics are profound and very impactful for me.

"There's lyrics in particular – ‘I should be crying but I just can't let it show’ - and when I was a little bit younger and I was angry and resentful and I feared the world and just couldn't cry or express myself it was those lyrics, hearing that, that would make me cry because it felt so true.

"There is me as a child and then I come out as me now. I have got Dianne, who replicates a woman, let's say my mother probably, and we go on this journey throughout but I don't know the whole dance yet to tell you the story completely, but yes it's emotional, it's lovely, I think there could be tears."

And his prediction turned out to be absolutely correct, as even the harsh Strictly markers were moved to tears by the emotional routine.

Both Shirley and Anton could be heard breaking down as they gave feedback on the dance, praising Bobby not only for his technical skill but also the raw emotion he infused into every movement.

In the audience Bobby's father, Jeff Brazier, could also be seen with tears in his eyes.

He joined the viewers in a standing ovation and shared the pride he felt for his son in a tender moment behind-the-scenes.

The emotional dad said: "As a family we're very tight, we've had to be. I am the one that has got to bring the boys up and I am the one who has got to watch them on strictly.' Hes a walking tribute to his mum and that's another reason why we're really proud of him."

Speaking about his mum's death, Bobby shared: "It changed my life completely. I would love to spend a day with her to see where I get my smile from. My first childhood memory, I remember thinking, oh my god, she is a superhero."

After the performance, when the Strictly show host asked what the performance meant to him, he seemed lost for words, saying: "I don't know what to say, all I can think is how blessed I am."

Pro dancer Dianne added: "It was such an honour to be a part of this."
