Frankfurt vs Tottenham (agg 1-2) LIVE SCORE: Maddison involved in HORROR collision before Solanke SCORES pen – updates

  • From Tom Barclay at Deutsche Bank Park

That was an uncharacteristically mature first half from Ange Postecoglou’s side.

They weathered the storm, got the goal through the penalty and did not do anything silly.

Now, can they keep their heads - as tempers began to flare on and off the pitch here - for the second half?

It is hard to overstate just how loud it is here in this stadium - especially when the home fans start whistling when Spurs are on the ball.

Postecoglou’s players will surely be finding it difficult to hear themselves think, but all that matters is the scoreline.

  • Half-time - E. Frankfurt 0-1 Spurs (Agg: 1-2)

    Tottenham are halfway there.

The Premier League side lead in the Frankfurt cauldron thanks to Dominic Solanke's cooly taken spotkick, awarded after VAR had to point out to the referee that James Maddison had been assaulted by the home goalkeeper.

    A huge 45 minutes await.

  • E. Frankfurt 0-1 Spurs (Agg: 1-2)

45+6. Johnson leaves a late one on Brown right in front of the Frankfurt dugout, and it sparks a real melee of pushing and shoving.

The Welshman is booked for his part - probably harshly - but amid it all there is a red card shown to one of the Frankfurt coaching staff for his over the top reaction.

Spurs need to keep their heads here while everyone else is losing theirs.

  • E. Frankfurt 0-1 Spurs (Agg: 1-2)

45+4. Bentancur gives away possession twice in a matter of seconds, and Frankfurt are ending the half in pursuit of an equaliser.

A cross is fizzed into the Spurs area from the right, and Bergvall struggles to dig it out from his feet and concedes a corner.

Two more minutes to see out until the break.

  • E. Frankfurt 0-1 Spurs (Agg: 1-2)

    45. If the home crowd were loud and excited before, they're irate and intimidating now.

And a couple of Tottenham players going down shortly after the restart hasn't helped their patience.

One of them certainly isn't time wasting though, and Maddison is back on the floor as he struggles to recover from that huge whack.

In fact, he won't be able to continue, and Ange Postecoglou doesn't want to see how the six minutes of stoppage time. He's making the change now and Dejan Kulusevski is on in his place.

  • E. Frankfurt 0-1 Spurs (Agg: 1-2)

    43. Dominic Solanke makes no mistake, and it's advantage Spurs in Frankfurt!

  • Cool as you like!

  • E. Frankfurt 0-0 Spurs (Agg: 1-1)

    42. It's a penalty to Spurs!

  • E. Frankfurt 0-0 Spurs (Agg: 1-1)

    38. Here's a flashpoint! Maddison has been absolutely wiped out by goalkeeper Kaua Santos inside the penalty area!

Romero clips a ball over the top of the Frankfurt defence which the Spurs midfielder races on to, and flicks a header goalwards.

A split-second later, the goalkeeper arrives and thunders into Maddison, leaving him flat out on the deck.

The first concern is for Maddison, but the second is surely that it should be a Tottenham penalty.

    VAR are reviewing the action...

  • E. Frankfurt 0-0 Spurs (Agg: 1-1)

    36. Another Tottenham centre-half comes up trumps in a battle with Ekitike.

But while Van de Ven utilised his pace and powers of recovery to good effect, Romero opts for what he does best: ruggedness and being a real nuisance to opponents.

  • E. Frankfurt 0-0 Spurs (Agg: 1-1)

    33. The first goal feels absolutely crucial tonight - which is not something you often think with Spurs.

Frankfurt are dominating, but Spurs do continue to sense that something could happen on the break.

  • E. Frankfurt 0-0 Spurs (Agg: 1-1)

    31. Spurs have forced a couple of corners in recent minutes, which not only meant the whistling was ramped up to 11 - but also that takers Porro and Bergvall were the target of various missiles launched from the stands.

  • E. Frankfurt 0-0 Spurs (Agg: 1-1)

    28. Here come a wave of white shirts again.

Frankfurt are peppering in crosses from right and left, and the pressure is beginning to build.

  • E. Frankfurt 0-0 Spurs (Agg: 1-1)

    26. The home fans are whistling and jeering each time Tottenham enjoy a prolonged spell of possession.

Tel almos makes them regret that decision as he launches a 25-yard thumper that looks destined for the top corner until Kaua Santos pushes over the crossbar.

  • E. Frankfurt 0-0 Spurs (Agg: 1-1)

    24. Vicario is a safe and calm presence once again.

This time the goalkeeper gets down at his near post to deal with a glancing head from substitute Chaibi.

  • E. Frankfurt 0-0 Spurs (Agg: 1-1)

    22. I've never used the cliche 'I can't hear myself think' in a literal manner before,

But I'm on the verge of it because this atmosphere is putting me off the task at head. How the Spurs players are dealing with it is an even bigger concern.

  • From Tom Barclay at Deutsche Bank Park

The good news is we are 23 minutes in and Postecoglou’s fragile side remain on level terms.

Bad news is that Arsenal target Hugo Ekitike looks in the mood for goals and like he will punish Spurs at some point.

Only a brilliant, last-ditch tackle from the jet-heeled Micky van de Ven prevented the Frenchman from an opener just now.

Eintracht have lost their chief creator though, with Mario Gotze - scorer of the winning goal in the 2014 World Cup final - forced off early with a suspected hamstring injury.

  • E. Frankfurt 0-0 Spurs (Agg: 1-1)

    20. A decent chance for Tottenham and Tel!

Solanke works hard in the channel and it creates the opportunity for the ball to pulled low into the penalty area.

It's not a straightforward opportunity by any means with the forward coming across from the left, but Tel fluffs his lines completely, scuffing a right footer well wide of the far post.

  • E. Frankfurt 0-0 Spurs (Agg: 1-1)

    17. Meanwhile, this is a blow for the home side.

Veteran Mario Gotze - the string puller at the top of the pitch - has pulled up, holding his hamstring.

The legendary German is unable to play any further part, and will be replaced by Fares Chaibi.

  • E. Frankfurt 0-0 Spurs (Agg: 1-1)

    16. Ekitike is through on goal!

One uncultured punt through the middle has the Frankfurt striker tearing between the two Tottenham centre-backs and into the area.

He looks certain to score until, out of nowhere, a sliding challenge from Van de Ven diverts the ball back to Vicario.

A stunning recovery from the Dutchman.

  • E. Frankfurt 0-0 Spurs (Agg: 1-1)

    15. Tottenham have made it to the 15-minute mark, and so far, so good.

Quietening down this home crowd may be impossible, but they have at least quelled Frankfurt's fast start.

  • E. Frankfurt 0-0 Spurs (Agg: 1-1)

    13. Maddison clips a lovely pass down the left into the path of Udogie, who does well to get to the byline.

Suddenly, Spurs fans are out of their seats, but not for long as the defender's cut back is easily intercepted by a defender.

  • E. Frankfurt 0-0 Spurs (Agg: 1-1)

    11. Koch is back up on his feet and off we go again.

The rain continues to lash down, and the ball is skidding about the pitch nicely.

  • E. Frankfurt 0-0 Spurs (Agg: 1-1)

    9. There's a break in play as former Leeds man Robin Koch receives treatment following a clash of heads with Dominic Solanke.

In other news, it's bloody loud in here.

  • E. Frankfurt 0-0 Spurs (Agg: 1-1)

    7. On TNT Sports co-commentary Glenn Hoddle suggests that Destiny Udogie often works too hard and it spoils his output - which is an excuse I use about myself between 9am and 5pm during the week.
