Sir David Jason reveals ongoing struggle with Only Fools and Horses Fans – and it caused havoc on Touring Toolshed set
ONLY Fools and Horses legend Sir David Jason has confessed to an ongoing struggle after filming the iconic programme.
The legendary 83-year-old actor has never been far from screens since playing Del Boy on the hit BBC sitcom between 1981 and 2003.
Fans have remained ever loyal to the show since but David has confessed that it has left him feeling overwhelmed at times.
David has revealed this his celebrity status has left fans mobbing him at all times in a desperate bid to bag a selfie with the iconic actor.
It has even wreaked havoc at times on the set of his other shows, including his recent runaway BBC success with Jay Blades, Touring Toolshed.
Speaking to the Daily Star about the blessing and a curse nature of his celebrity status, David said: "Del Boy is a character that I can’t avoid. He’s become so ingrained in the public’s mind that where I got, I tend to be recognised and then what happens is that people can’t help but interfere with your private life.

"It’s part of the job. It’s part of giving your time and your life to the Great British public, God bless them."
As a result of the heightened attention surrounding the star, he confessed that producers of Touring Toolshed had to go to extra lengths to ensure that he was protected from a baying mob of fans.
They created fenced-off areas where he could relax in private and avoid interaction with those who came to watch filming.
He added: "When we got to these places, we have a fenced-off area."
"We’re in a little area of our own so that the public can see us and see what we’re up to but can’t actually get in and pull at your shirt tails and say, 'Give us a selfie'."
Fans of Only Fools and Horses were delighted to see Sir David dressed in character earlier this month at the annual two-day Only Fools and Horses Appreciation Society convention in Milton Keynes.
The star has opened up to The Sun's TV Mag about whether the show could make a comeback.
He said: "Well, to be honest with you, we would like that to happen very much because not only did we enjoy it so much, but so did most of the British public. Because of that, we would love to do it."
