Married at First Sight’s Mel Schilling says she’s feeling ‘positive about the future’ amid cancer battle
MARRIED at First Sight dating coach, Mel Schilling has opened up about ‘feeling positive and confident about the future’ as she undergoes chemotherapy for bowel cancer.
The 52 year old stars as one of the relationship experts on the E4 show had surgery at a London hospital in December 2023 to remove a tumour, after she was diagnosed with colon cancer.
The mother -of- one described how she started having severe stomach cramps while working away in Australia and booked herself in for a scan when she returned to the UK where her cancer was discovered.
“About a month ago I was filming in Australia and I developed severe stomach cramps I put it down to all the travel I’d been doing and the upset it caused to my system. I saw a GP in Sydney, he put it down to constipation, gave me some laxatives and sent me away. Fortunately I knew something was wrong, so I booked in for a scan when I returned to the UK. On Thursday I was told I had colon cancer and my whole life changed.”
Now the Australian who has been announced as the ambassador for colorectal charity Occtopus, The Oxford Colon Cancer Trust, has said it's important to demystify cancer. She said:
She said: “It is really important to me to demystify a bowel cancer diagnosis and put people at ease about it.

“It doesn’t always mean a negative outcome or a drastic impact on your everyday life, so don’t assume the worst if you start noticing any of the bowel cancer symptoms and don’t let a fear of it delay you from getting it checked out.
The relationship expert says that her prognosis is good and shes feeling fine about the future.
She says: “My prognosis is good and I am feeling positive and confident about the future.”
She added: “By promoting awareness and reducing the fear factor around bowel cancer, we can make a tangible difference in preventing and fighting the disease.
