I call people to tell them they’ve won the lottery – here’s the first piece of advice I give them

A SENIOR Winners' Advisor says he always tells people who have won the jackpot, to take a holiday.

Andy Carter, at The National Lottery, said: "I have met lots of winners over the years and dream holidays are always top of the National Lottery wish list after winning a life-changing prize."

Andy recommends people go on holiday, especially after scooping up more than £100million, "to let the win sink in".

He said: "We all use breaks away from home as a time to think and with a new massive bank balance, you need that time."

It comes after the National Lottery asked the nation where their holiday destinations would be if money wasn't an object.

The research found that 40 per cent of those asked would go see the Northern lights in Iceland, whereas 31 per cent would enjoy a beach holiday in the Caribbean.

Around 29 per cent would go on a world cruise and 25 per cent would jet to Japan to see the cherry blossoms.

Only nine per cent would be adventurous enough to go backpacking in Southeast Asia and one in ten said they'd follow their favourite sports team on tour.

A quarter of respondents would rush to Disney World Florida and 18 per cent would hit the Dubai shopping mall.

The research found 16 per cent would visit the Taj Mahal while 17 per cent want to explore Machu Picchu.

Surprisingly 39 per cent said they were not keen on exploring so far afield with around 20 per cent preferring to go to places in Europe such as Spain and Greece.

And almost half of Brits said they'd consider a trip to space if money was no object.

The research comes ahead of a mega EuroMillions jackpot this Friday with an estimated £111million up for grabs.
