My winter skin hack is 5p and will protect you from freezing cold winds – I never leave the house without doing it
IT’S cold and it’s windy.
With the current freezing temperatures in Britain and the Met Office warning gale forces of up to 70mph, protecting your skin has never been so important.
Beauty experts have revealed that if your skin is exposed to prolonged wind, the outer layers will dry out, making you more susceptible to UV rays and the damage they cause.
Practising a daily SPF can help prevent this, as well as applying protective creams to your face which help to lock the moisture in and keep it protected from the outside world.
But it’s not just the skin the wind affects, but your eyes too.
You may notice with the strong winds your eyes have been water more often than usual.
This is because your eyes are being exposed to the cold air, and like your skin, they dry out which can make your eyes work over time to get more moisture in them.
This may then cause your eyes to water uncontrollably.
But if you have done a full face of makeup, and you don’t want your face to get smudged - the tears can be a problem.
It can leave you with tear marks in your foundation, or even leave your mascara running down your face.
Luckily, beauty fans on social media have claimed to have found just the trick to prevent this from happening.
Beauty fan Sonya Sed, who has over 437k followers on TikTok, has said the beauty hack is “superior and it works.”
She revealed that using Vaseline - petroleum jelly - can help save the teary eyed issue.
Vaseline can be bought from supermarkets or beauty stores like Superdrug and Boots for as little as £2.45.
However, users of the beauty hack will only need a tiny amount of the petroleum jelly which means it’s costing them as little as 5p a go.
Sonya demonstrated the winter beauty hack, and wrote: “Saw a video of a girl putting Vaseline in the corner of her eyes before leaving the house to stop the eyes from watering and it’s been the best thing TikTok has taught me.”
In the video, you can see Sonya getting a cotton bud into a pot of Vaseline.
It appears that she only dabs a small amount of the jelly onto the cotton bud before gently applying to the skin just underneath her eyes.
She rubs it gently using the cotton bud, and only sticks to just underneath the inside corner of her eyes.
Even though the video has been up for 24 hours, she has already gone viral with it.
Over 80.7k people liked the video, and over eight hundred people rushed to the comments section to share their thoughts.
One wrote: “Omg I’m. Trying it tomorrow.”
Another added: “Omg does this really work? My eyes always water when I walk outside and it takes my eyeliner off.”
A third said: “Yes! Been doin this for years. Great for the outer corners too.”
Others suggested some of their own tips as well.
One said: “When your eyes water, it means you have an oil buildup.
“Put a hot washcloth on your eyes for 10 minutes in the morning. It will stop it.”

Sonya replied: “Good tip. I’ll try it.”
Another added: “My ophthalmologist advised me to wash my lashes with non tear baby shampoo to remove oil and clogged glands.”
