U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is headed to the Middle East for the fourth time since Israel began military operations in Gaza in October. The trip comes on the heels of a U.S. strike that killed an Iran-linked militia commander in Baghdad and a suspected Israeli killing of a Hamas leader in Lebanon that further raised fears of a wider war in the region.

A U.S. airstrike Thursday in Baghdad killed an Iran-linked militia commander, The Post reported. Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba, a militia that has claimed several attacks on U.S. forces, said its deputy commander of operations in the Baghdad region, Mushtaq Talib al-Saidi, also known as Abu Taqwa, was killed at a logistical support headquarters.
Three Israelis who were previously considered missing are now believed to be hostages in Gaza, Israel Defense Forces spokesman Daniel Hagari said Thursday.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told visiting Biden adviser Amos Hochstein that Israel intends to create “fundamental change on its border with Lebanon” so that residents of northern Israel can “live in safety and security,” according to Netanyahu’s office. Fighting along the border has been escalating for weeks.
At least 22,438 people have been killed in Gaza and 57,614 wounded since the war began, the Gaza Health Ministry said. Israel estimates that 1,200 people were killed in the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas.
