Horror as giant mutant rats ‘immune to poison’ infest university students’ flats

UNIVERSITY students’ flats are being invaded by giant mutant rats.

Some are 2ft long and immune to normal poison.

One terrified youngster said: “Almost everyone has them.

"We can’t go in our kitchen without wearing shoes.”

Another asked: “We’ve signed a tenancy, so have no option but to stay.

"But how can we live with mice and rats?

The angry students from Sheffield University and Sheffield Hallam are threatening a rent strike.

Their £79-a-week rooms are provided by company Unite Students, which claimed it is tackling the issue with pest control contractors.

Both universities advised victims to contact student services or accommodation advisers.

The Pest Control Association said: “Normal rats are being killed by poison so resistant species are taking their place.

“It's only natural that their numbers are expanding and there could be a significant risk to public health if their population is left unchecked."
