Though it might look pretty and be fun to play in, snow can often play havoc with our homes.

As the warm, humid air rapidly cools, there is an increase chance on condensation and it can become a huge naissance in the winter.

Whilst wiping down your windows every morning might be a pain, leaving condensation to air dry can create even more issues – such as black mould.

Over time these tiny spores can even damage your health, with the NHS warning that having mould in your home can trigger allergies, asthma and even lead to respiratory infections.

Rather than shelling out for an expensive dehumidifier, one woman has shared her low-cost hack for beating condensation.

As other Facebook users complained about extra moisture, this thrifty cleaner shared her condensation hack in the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips group.

Whilst you might think the Facebook user would reach for a squeegee and a cloth, she actually revealed that she buys cat litter from B&M to banish streaming windows.

Unlike other brands, the high street giant’s has silica crystals which absorb more moisture and reduce the humidity around your home.

Though you can simply scatter it close on your window sills, this clever home maker has a foolproof method for tackling humidity in her home.

Replying to another post in the group, the cleaning expert admitted that she will use the kitty litter and old tights to keep her home dry.

“I use cat litter in an old pair of tights. Cut legs off fill and tie knot,” she explained, adding: “Works well.”

If you weren’t sold on this alternative cleaning method, you might be when you learn that the B&M cat litter costs just £3.49 for 3.8 litres.

With a 500ml bottle of mould remover costing up to £5.25, you can’t afford to miss out on this penny pinching hack – especially as the cold weather set to stay.

This wasn't the only low cost method though, with others stating that they use salt to get rid of any extra moisture.

In a previous post in the group, one of its 357,000 members suggested using salt to combat condensation.

“Bowls of salt near windows really does help,” they replied, with others also saying they’d used this tried and tested hack.

For those wondering how it works, it is because salt has absorbent properties meaning that it will whip away any moisture in the air and stop it settling on your windows.
