China seeks WTO talks over EU tariffs on Chinese EVs that ‘severely violate’ trade rules

China announced on Friday its decision to take its dispute with the European Union over the bloc’s import tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles to the World Trade Organization (WTO) for arbitration.

In an online statement, a spokesman for China’s Ministry of Commerce said the EU preliminary ruling announced in early July lacked legal foundation.

“It severely violates the WTO rules,” the spokesman said.
