I own UK’s cheapest chippy where a fiver will get you ‘monster’ meal of pie, chips AND mushy peas – we’re 40% cheaper
A CHIPPY in a picturesque village so cheap it sells fish, chips and mushy peas for just a fiver has developed a very loyal fanbase.
Customers say the combination of good value, lovely food and friendly staff keeps them coming back to the Fish and Chip Co in Ramsbottom, Greater Manchester.
It sells the inflation-busting special consisting of a small fish, chips and a choice of either mushy peas, curry sauce or gravy along with a range of gluten free food.
Over the last year the price of fish and chip takeaways has increased by 19% according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS) with prices reaching as much as £14 in certain areas such as Somerset.
The UK average for fish and chips stands at £9 according to the ONS statistics and the National Federation of Fish Friers says factors including the cost of living crisis mean outlets are raising prices in order to survive.
Kelly Connor, 38, has been serving up the fish and chips at The Fish and Chip Co for 11 years.

She says at the end of the week, the popular British tradition of Friday chippy tea still sees their customers queuing out of the door --and means some customers come back religiously every single week.
Kelly said: "We do gluten free food too and that attracts people as well as the cheap prices.
"On a Friday they are queuing out of the door and on to the street.
"We have lots of regular customers, including one who has been coming every Wednesday for at least seven years."
Kate Tyson, 37, who has worked alongside Kelly at the chippy for a year, said: "He even rings up to make his order at the exact same time."
The chippy's small fish and chips with a choice of side is hugely popular for a fiver and is helping to bust the record price hikes.
Customer Adam Knight, a B&Q worker, says: "It's the best chippy in Rammy.
"I have been coming here once a week for about six years.
"It's not expensive, the food is great - not just the fish and chips - the plate cheese pie is lovely and the staff are brilliant."
For just £5.45 the chippy offers a homemade pie with chips and a side and kids can enjoy a range of specials for under £4.
Happy customers six-year-old Reeva Morris and her four-year-old sister Hattie Morris come to the fish and chip shop every Thursday for a 'chippy treat' with their nana, who says "It's a lovely chippy, really good value".

Reeva said: "It's not a child's portion and we can share it."
Fish at the takeaway is freshly caught and sustainable, and is described as 'perfectly fried in Rammy'.

Natalie Walker, a regular from Helmshore, says she visits once a month, not just for the thrifty prices but for the gluten free curry sauce.
"I have never found it anywhere else," she says. "It's a great fish and chip shop - really good value."
