Davina McCall bags acting role on legendary BBC drama – and she’s just weeks away from hitting screens
MY Mum, Your Dad presenter Davina McCall is taking on a new acting role in an upcoming episode of Doctor Who later this year.
Davina, 56, will star alongside Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson in the new season of the BBC’s legendary sci-fi series.
The BBC has released a first look at Davina’s role in the Christmas special, which will mark the Sex Education star’s first official episode playing the Doctor.
Davina will appear as herself in the episode. The teaser picture shared by the BBC shows the star posing in front of a large lamp, with the corner of the Tardis in view.
This will be Davina’s second guest-appearance on the show, as she had a small part in the 2005 episode “Bad Wolf” when Christopher Eccleston held the sonic screwdriver.
She played Davinadroid in the episode “Bad Wolf” which was set 100 years in the future and saw the Doctor and Rose (Billie Piper) trapped inside killer reality shows.

The Doctor was a housemate in the Big Brother house which was voice controlled by Davinadroid. Meanwhile, Rose faced the wrath of Anne Droid on The Weakest Link. She was a killer robot version of Anne Robinson who killed off the weakest link in each round, voiced by the quiz show host herself.
However, Davina did not appear on the show in person back then, but that will change this time around.
The special has been written by showrunner Russell T. Davies (as was Davina’s last appearance) and she’s thrilled to be returning to the franchise.
“It is beyond an honour to be asked to appear in not only Doctor Who but also Ncuti’s first episode as the new Doctor,” Davina said.
“It was such an extraordinary experience and Russell has written you all a Christmas delight! Now I just can’t wait for everyone to see it!” she gushed.
The upcoming Christmas special follows on from Doctor Who’s three-part 60th anniversary special, which began airing on 25 November. The first episode saw David Tennant return as the Doctor and reunite with his former companion Donna Noble (played by Catherine Tate).
Part two of the special airs on 2 December, and it concludes with the finale the following week.
This will lead to Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa taking over as the Doctor for the Christmas special in which Davina will appear.
Ncuti, who plays the 15th Doctor, will be joined by Millie Gibson, who plays his new companion Ruby Sunday.
The BBC has confirmed that the special, titled The Church on Ruby Road, will follow the pair as they meet for the first time, all the while dealing with a faux called the Goblin King.
It’s a Sin actor Michelle Greenidge will also appear in the episode as Ruby’s mum Carla while EastEnders star Angela Wynter appears as her grandmother Cherry. Walford alum Anita Dobson is set to play Mrs Flood.
Doctor Who's The Church on Ruby Road will air on Christmas Day on BBC One. The next 60th anniversary special, Wild Blue Yonder, premieres first on December 2.
