Five free ways to spread kindness on Random Acts of Kindness Day
TODAY is Random Acts of Kindness Day – a chance to share a little happiness with small, free gestures that can make a big impact.
If you fancy giving it a go, here are five simple ways to spread kindness — without spending a penny.
DECLUTTER & DONATE: Clear out your wardrobe and cupboards and donate clothes, books or household items to a local charity shop.
You can also find clothing banks near you at traid.org.uk.
Many organisations accept old towels and blankets for animal shelters too.
It’s an easy way to declutter while helping others in need — and you’ll feel great knowing your unused items are going to a good cause.

VOLUNTEER: Give the gift of your time. Offer to walk a friend’s dog, babysit for a busy parent, or help with the school run.
If you’re looking for more formal volunteering roles, check out gov.uk/volunteering for a full list of opportunities with charities and organisations across the UK.
GIVE BLOOD: Donating blood is a selfless act that can save lives.
It costs nothing but makes an enormous difference to someone in need.
To find out how to donate in your area, head to blood.co.uk and consider signing up as a regular donor.
SKILL SHARE: Offer to teach someone a skill you’re good at — maybe baking, knitting or basic DIY, for instance.
If you’re tech-savvy, why not help someone set up their phone or troubleshoot a computer issue?
You can even post on the Nextdoor app to see if there’s someone in your community who could benefit from your expertise.
LEND A HAND: Help a colleague with a work task, carry someone’s shopping to their car, or tidy up a communal space such as a park or shared garden.
Encourage your family to join in, and drop in on neighbours to see if they need any errands run.
Small acts can have a big impact and often inspire others to “pay it forward” too.
