Surprise Steam game becomes a big hit with fans after it’s released completely free
HUGE amounts of hype surrounding upcoming games can be both a blessing and a curse.
While it can help increase sales when the game is finally released, it can cause huge upset among fans when it doesn’t live up to people’s expectations.
That’s why we’ve seen the success of a few smaller games, which didn’t receive huge amounts of marketing before launch like Palworld and Balatro.
A recent game took things one step further, by having no announcement of its release, and has surprisingly earned a massive 200k concurrent players.
Launching on Steam on April 1, Content Warning didn’t have much warning before it was released.
However, thanks to a special offer that was only available on launch day, it had unprecedented success for a small indie like this.
More in Steam
Content Warning was free for the first 24 hours after release, so players were happy to give it a try.
It seems the team was right to be confident in its game as it has gained a 9/10 on Steam.
Content Warning features two- to four-player online co-op, where you team up with friends in the hopes of filming spooky events and going viral online.
It has a similar vibe to Lethal Company, which saw huge success when it launched late last year.
People are loving the cute look and social aspect as you and your friends get up to hijinks together.
For a game of this size, 200k concurrent players is unheard of, especially on the same day that it launched.
While Content Warning is no longer free to grab, you can still grab it for a bargain price.
It costs just £6.69 / $7.99 on Steam, so many players are still paying out to get involved in this fun social game.
