I thought I won a fiver on People’s Postcode Lottery so brushed off the win – turns out it was a life-changing £250,000
A GRAN who thought she'd won a fiver on the lottery couldn't believe her eyes when she was handed a cheque with a life-changing figure.
Karen landed a massive £250,000 jackpot through the People's Postcode Lottery last week.
But she and partner Martin didn't expect to see the six-figure sum - and are now making grand plans for how they'll spend their winnings.
The Southport, Merseyside couple, who share six children and 10 grandchildren, had no idea they'd won a quarter of a million until they opened the golden envelope.
They were both in utter shock when they realised how much they'd won.
Karen said, holding her hand over her mouth: "Oh my God, it wasn't a fiver then.

"I'm amazed and he's going to have a heart attack. We've got some children who will really appreciate it, so some of it will be going to them.
"When you see people winning large amounts of money, you think it will never happen to you.
"When it does, it is a bit of a shock. I've never even thought what I would do with it.
"I'll have to go in, have a cup of tea and think about it. Maybe start making a few plans now."
Martin said it had been his call to buy a lotto ticket after seeing it all over the news.
He recalled: "I said, let's try the Postcode Lottery because you always see the winners.
"I said it would be more than £1,000, but we weren't expecting to win that much money."
When the couple were handed the golden envelope Karen was wearing a shirt with a fitting quote - good things take time.
The grandparents landed the cash alongside three other neighbours in the lottery's weekly Millionaire Street draw.
They hope to use the cash to buy a new home when they downsize, and help out their loved ones, too.
And Martin is already planning the couple's first getaway - to Barbados to watch the world cricket tournament.
The grandad said he wanted to jet off to the Caribbean isle where he spent part of his childhood.
I'm amazed and he's going to have a heart attack.

The couple, who have been together for 15 years, are now going to splash out on a business class ticket to watch the T20 World Cup cricket.
Martin said: "When I was a kid I lived in the Caribbean from about 10 until I was around 12 and a half. There were lots of places I used to frequent as a kid.
"My dad worked as an engineer in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Bridgetown, Barbados. We were there for two and a half years and had a fabulous time. In those days it wasn't overrun with tourists.
"We've been back on cruises and looked around a few of the old places. I can tell people about the places and say things like, 'There's a nice beach further along there'."
Their neighbour Maureen - who is undergoing cancer treatment - also opened up about winning £250,000.
The gran said: "Blimey! That's really good, isn't it? I've been thinking about getting a bungalow because I'm finding the stairs a bit difficult now.

"I'll get the roof done. Part of it was damaged in the gales last November and I've got buckets all over the floor with the rain coming in.
"I'll treat all the family, too. I'm feeling stunned. I wasn't expecting that."
