I spent almost £2.5k freeze drying my dead cat – some people don’t get it but I love having him with me still
A WOMAN has left people stunned after revealing she spent almost £2,500 freeze drying her dead cat.
Meghan explained that when her beloved cat Gerard passed away, she decided to have him "preserved" - a process which took nine months and cost just short of $3,000 (£2,386).
She also stressed that Gerard is "freeze dried not taxidermy".
In a Reel on Instagram, she wrote: "I knew freeze drying my cat was going to be controversial."
Meghan then shared a video of some of her happiest moments with Gerard, before adding: "Don't let anyone tell you not to do this. You do you."
Gerard now sits on her mantelpiece, although she has also introduced him to the cats he knew when he was living - including his "best friend" Carlisle.

And in another Q&A session on Instagram, Meghan revealed her only regret is that she chose a pose where Gerard had his eyes open, admitting she'd have preferred it if his eyes were closed.
But as for whether or not she regrets the decision as a whole, she insisted: "NOPE totally at peace with my decision and so glad I did it."
Unsurprisingly, Meghan's decision to freeze dry Gerard divided opinion in the comments section.
Some insisted it was "f**king weird", with one writing: "This is f**king weird and unhealthy as s**t."
"New level of crazy cat lady unlocked," another commented.
"Weird to the maximum," a third wrote.
However, others understood why she'd decided to preserve Gerard.
"I thought it was cringey, until I saw you hold him and the peace on your face… beautiful!" one wrote.
"I’m glad he’s home!"
"I thought this was beautiful, and fully understand everyone grieves differently cause I’m a fully developed adult unlike most of these comments," another added.
"Glad he’s home."
"From one cat mum to another - I’m sorry for your loss," a third wrote.
"And I’m so sorry that your little video has received so many negative comments."
"Why is it okay for a man to shoot a deer and hang his head on his wall like a f**king trophy, and he’s praised, but this woman gets called insane for preserving a beloved pet?" someone else wondered.
As another said: "One of the most ignorant things you can do is slam people for the way they grieve.
"We all grieve different. Nobody’s grief journey is the same.
"Do not judge the way others grieve because it’s not what you would do in their situation.
