Miami Open tennis match suspended after medical emergency in crowd in worrying scenes

A Miami Open match has been stopped due to a medical emergency in the crowd.

Argentine Karen Khachanov, who had taken the first set 6-1 against compatriot Francisco Cerundolo, was level at 5-5 when the incident took place.

According to journalist Danny Miche, the match was stopped when "someone broke down in the stands".

It is also understood rain had just begun to fall on the court at the time of the medical emergency.

Play resumed after around 12 minutes as Cerundolo went on to take the second set 7-5 and force a decider.

Two-time Grand Slam semi-finalist Khachanov lost three straight games after the stoppage, but recovered to hold his serve at the start of the third set.

It comes after Miami Open fans potentially watched Andy Murray's final appearance in a singles match at the tournament on Sunday.

The Scot, 36, who won the event in 2009 and 2013, lost 7-5 5-7 6-7 (6) to Czech Republic's Tomas Machac in a marathon match that lasted three hours and 25 minutes.
