I live in a £3K home & it’s way better than a £300k pad – I pay cheap bills & even in the winter it’s never ever cold

THEY say money can't buy you happiness - and that couldn't be more true for one savvy homeowner.

Alex Cassidy, who is 22-years-old, explained how he built his very own one-bed property in Tobago for just £3k - adding that he gets far more "enjoyment" out of it than he would a £300k pad in the UK.

In a clip shared to TikTok (@alex.cassidy4), he explains his reasoning as to why.

"I'll have to work 35 years, maybe 40 years, to keep paying off our mortgage for a house which I wouldn't even get as much enjoyment out of," he says.

Alex then goes on to share why he gets so much pleasure out of his humble abode, which he describes as a "glorified shed."

"I never wake up cold, I never have to pay much on bills, and I get to wake up in a beautiful place like this in the countryside, listening to the birds and breathing fresh air."

He notes that he also has the same facilities as he would back in England - including a kitchen, water, running electric and even "extremely quick" WiFi.

The savvy 22-year-old says he's got every he needs in Tobago for better and cheaper - adding that you don't need much to live, you just need the necessities.

Alex previously explained how the property project came about, noting how he was gifted some land by his stepfather.

He then used his own savings to build the property from the ground up, which includes an open plan kitchen, bathroom and a balcony that offers envy-inducing views.

It took him just four months to build and he did it without any loans and, unsurprisingly, he's chuffed he doesn't have to pay council tax life he would in the UK either.

The post has since gone viral, racking up a whopping 366k views and hundreds of comments, with many commending Alex for his way of living.

I was fed up living as a poor man so put my home on wheels & went off-grid - now I have no bills & couldn't be happier

"You're living the dream mate, you're spot on you can live cheaply but have a better life," praised one.

A second agreed: "Living the dream, well done - love it!"

A third commented: "Bro has cracked the code. Enjoy the good life!"

Meanwhile, a fourth added: "Looks brill pal!"

Another chimed in: "Good on you mate. Would love to do this myself."

And one more wrote: "Living my dream life man!"

Tiny Homes FAQs

The tiny house movement began in the USA before gaining popularity in the UK.

What is a tiny home?

Tiny houses are small, fully-equipped living spaces designed to lead a more sustainable, off-grid lifestyle. Although they vary in size and shape, tiny homes tend to be between 15 and 50 square metres in capacity, made of sustainable materials and are easier — and cheaper — to maintain than traditional brick homes.

Are tiny homes legal in the UK?

As long as the tiny house doesn't exceed 19.8m x 6.7m in size, it is defined as a caravan in UK law. Therefore, tiny houses are classed as legal additional living space.

Can you get a mortgage for a tiny home?

The small size and relatively low cost of tiny houses means they’re not generally considered eligible for a mortgage. However, there are plenty of options to take out a loan to fund your dreams of the perfect, moveable home.
