The Chase star forced to speak out after string of accusations about cheating on show
ONE of the Chasers and a former I’m A Celebrity campmate has hit back at fans who accused them of cheating on the show.
The Chase’s Anne Hegerty, aka The Governess, who has been on the ITV gameshow since 2010, has recently replied to a string of allegations about the show's set-up.
Anne, 68, revealed in a new interview that throughout the years of being on the show, she has been accused of ‘all sorts of things’ but insisted there was ‘nothing secret happening’ on the ITV quiz show.
She shared during the sit-down that one of the rumours circulating was that she wears an earpiece that host Bradley Walsh is somehow wired to and influences the show's results.
Speaking out for the first time about the string of allegations, Anne rubbished the claims and revealed that the ITV gameshow is assessed by ‘independent adjudicators.’
Anne told the Daily Star: "I get people saying all sorts of things. They ask me if I cheat. They say, “You’ve got someone in your ears telling you the answers.”

“Others say Bradley reads the questions faster for the Chasers. I’ve checked with a stopwatch, and he doesn’t do that. If the show did any of that, wouldn’t they get six better-looking people?
Anne added: “There are always going to be cynical people, but we have independent adjudicators – there’s nothing secret happening. It wouldn’t work if it wasn’t all above board.”
The former I’m A Celebrity campmate has appeared as a chaser on the hit show alongside the likes of Paul Sinha and Mark Labbett.
Ironically, in 2021, Anne jokingly teased Bradley for allegedly cheating and helping out a contestant on the show.
The question at the time was: “A 2018 set of stamps featuring which London palace depicts the Pond Gardens, Great Fountain Gardens and Maze?’
During the episode, Anne claimed the host had over-emphasised the word maze as a clue to the player.
Anne told Bradley: “I love extremely the subtle way you went MAZE.
“Just to make sure she knew it.”
Bradley immediately protested: “I didn’t do that! I didn’t do that, I do not do that, I didn’t do that, did I? Did you hear me do that?”
Later on, during the instalment, he made light of the situation and continued to over-emphasise the words throughout the rest of the game.
Most recently, Mark, AKA The Beast, sparked concern amongst fans for host Bradley.
The 58-year-old has worked alongside the popular presenter, 63, since the show started in 2009.
In a new interview, the quiz genius admitted that he and his fellow Chasers like to "keep an eye" on Bradley so he doesn't overdo too much in work.

It comes after Mark talked about the gruelling The Chase filming schedule they all endure, which can involve recording up to 200 episodes per year.
