Masked Singer’s Maypole ‘revealed’ as huge noughties pop star by fans who claim ‘all the clues point to her’

AN ICONIC Noughties popstar has been "revealed" as The Masked Singer's cheery Maypole.

The rosy-cheeked wooden figure has been subject to huge speculation, with ITV viewers recently claiming a TOWIE star is behind the mask.

Now The Masked Singer's loyal viewers have thrown none other than South Shields singing sensation Cheryl's name into the frame.

The Girls Aloud songstress - and solo artist in her own right - was flagged on X, formerly known as Twitter, as the secret celebrity behind the flowing skirt.

The flurry of fresh opinion came when the ITV character belted out Clown by Emeli Sande, 36, after previously impressing with their first performance of Pink tune Never Gonna Not Dance Again.

Now fans reckon the Sound Of The Underground hitmaker is a shoo-in for Maypole.

One wrote on X: "Maypole is Cheryl," as another added: "Maypole has me stumped… but the clues are heavily hinting toward Cheryl. Urghhhh. I just don't know!!"

A third mused: "She can speak Spanish and Italian… But she can’t speak French. Maybe it IS Cheryl…"

One then concluded: "I think Maypole is Cheryl - they have a song I can’t speak French but told the panel she can speak Italian and Spanish."

Cheryl is set to reunite with her Can't Speak French bandmates for a special reunion tour following the sad passing of bandmate Sarah Harding in 2021 from breast cancer, aged 39.

The Sun told last year how they have launched company Let's Go Eskimo, inspired by a lyric from their 2004 hit Love Machine, for any money brought in by Girls Aloud.

The popstars also have form on the ITV reality series, with Nicola Roberts winning her series as The Queen Bee.

Meanwhile, viewers have been trying to work on Maypole's many other clues.

In their ITV interview ahead of the series, they said: "Keeping it secret actually hasn’t been that hard for me. I’ve decided to just hide in plain sight!"

In the show, they were heard saying: "I know my net worth" and "I’ve skipped around the court."

Meanwhile, some drew out the year 1984 after Maypole said: "The audience are watching, so I’ll give it the sell, it’s something I’ve learnt since the year of Orwell."

Geordie Cheryl was born the year before, in 1983.

A letter marked "Return to sender" has also been an equally confusing clue.

This weekend, another set of fans thought TOWIE star turned country singer Megan McKenna, 31, is Maypole.

Meanwhile, previously, others matched Ciao Adios hitmaker Anne Marie, 32, with the smiley character.

Yet there is a clear theme of a popstar behind the mask - due to the character's strong vocal abilities.
