I get mum-shamed for having a baby at 40 – trolls mistake me for his ‘nan’ but they can do one… I got pregnant so easily
A WOMAN who had a baby at 40 has hit back at trolls who mistake her for the tot's grandmother.
Brand consultant Renae has two children - 21 and 22 - from a previous relationship.
But when she got married again recently, she and her husband decided to try for a baby.
And despite the taboo surrounding so-called "geriatric pregnancies", Renae didn't have a hard time conceiving, she explained as she responded to one comment.
"I'm not being cruel but I thought you were the nan," the person had written.
She responded in a TikTok video, as she said: "Ouch! No offense taken actually. I am what I am. I'm 40 years old, I'm 41 tomorrow.

"We decided to see if Mother Nature wanted me to have a baby at 40 which she did, very easily actually.
"So we now have a 6 week old. So I'm not the nan, I am the mum.
"But yeah, women at 40 can have babies and it's fine - it's ok."
Despite this remark, others went on to insist Renae was "too old" to have a newborn.
And she once again took issue with the comment, responding in another TikTok.
"I would love to know which part I'm 'too old' for," she said.
"So let's just run through it together, shall we?
"I got pregnant naturally, with no intervention, so my ovaries would disagree - they weren't too old.
"My pregnancy was completely amazing, no complications, so therefore my body wasn't too old.
"Then I gave birth naturally, with no intervention, so I wasn't too old for that.
"I've bounced back - I'm six weeks postpartum and my body is completely back to normal, no healing issues - so I wasn't too old for that.
"My baby is gaining weight, I'm fine, so which part am I too old for?"
"Which part of being 40 and having a newborn is too old?" she concluded.
"Just explain that to me because I'm having trouble figuring it out!"
But a lot of people in the comments section didn't let Renee's reply stop them from once again weighing in on her age.
"My cousin is an old mum and the school kids thinks she’s their grandma," one wrote.
"I couldn’t imagine, I’m 40 and my kids are 19, 21. I can hardly get up in the morning," another admitted.
"I had my kids at 27 and 29 I wouldn’t have had it any other way you will be taking your child to school in your 50s!" a third said.
To which Renae responded: "That’s fine with me! I had my first at 19 and second at 21.
"I’m looking forward to it!"
And there were others in the comments who were quick to defend Renae.
"A lot of people have children later on in life," one wrote.
"You look good, ignore them, they are not worth the thought."
"What is wrong with people, why not mind our own business and wish good for everyone EVEN if we disagree!" another insisted.

As a third said: "I’m 36 and losing hope - stories of older mums give me hope.
"Thank you!"
