I see a lot of dry eyelids in winter as a dermatologist – my favorite fixes are drugstore buys including a $6 steal
A DERMATOLOGIST has revealed the secret to banishing dry skin around the eyes amid harsh winter weather.
She recommended a selection of affordable skincare products that are moisturizing without causing any irritation.
Dr. Mamina Turegano, MD (@dr.mamina) has over 1.1 million followers on TikTok, where she shares beauty tips.
The skincare expert shared a clip of a woman showing dry skin on her eyelids as she revealed it’s a common condition this time of year.
“I’m a board-certified dermatologist and we see a lot of dry eyelids, especially in the wintertime,” Dr. Mamina said.
“I recommend using products that are moisturizing and occlusive but also very minimal with irritants.
“Like Aquaphor Healing Ointment.”
She held up the budget-friendly skincare product for dry and cracked skin before listing alternatives.
Aquaphor Healing Ointment costs just $6.30 from Target and has a perfect five-star rating from customers.
Many people have written glowing reviews after being amazed by how effective it was on their dry skin.
One person said their skin “heals quickly and stays hydrated with regular use,” while another called it a “must-have for winter!”
Dr. Mamina suggested a selection of other skincare products that can be effective.
“I also really like Cerave healing ointment and Vaseline,” she said.
“SkinFix also has a good one in their Ecezma + line, the Dermatitis Face Balm.”
Cerave healing ointment is available from Target for $20, while a small tub of unscented Vaseline is around $2 from the retailer.
Skinfix Eczema+ Dermatitis Face Balm costs $19 from Amazon.
“The girl in the video talks about how she really likes this product called Eczema honey, which I think has a lot of great and helpful ingredients,” Dr. Mamina said.
“But when it comes to treating eyelid skin I recommend starting with something simple with a minimal amount of ingredients.
“Because the skin around the eyes is pretty sensitive.”
She tagged the woman featured in her video in the caption of the post alongside an explanation of what causes eyelids to become dry.
“#Stitch with @beauty.with.cait eyelid skin is thinner and has less oil glands, so the delicate skin is more prone to dryness and irritation,” she wrote.
“I recommend products that have a short ingredients list. Most people do well with petrolatum (yes, it’s safe), so I think it’s a good starting point.

“I think Eczema Honey is a lovely product and can be helpful but wouldn’t be my first go-to. See a derm if you need more help.”
