Agony for Team GB swimmer Matt Richards as he misses out on Olympic gold by EXACTLY same amount of time as Adam Peaty
MATT RICHARDS revealed he thought he'd WON - after missing gold by just 0.02 seconds.
Amazingly, the Team GB swimmer fell short of the top gong in the 200m freestyle final by exactly the same margin legendary team-mate Adam Peaty had finished short of a Paris gold.
Romania's David Popovici nicked gold after the tightest of final 50m bursts.
And USA star Luke Hobson pipped Brit Duncan Scott for bronze.
Richards revealed afterwards he thought he had come first - but also insisted he was satisfied with his first Olympic individual gong.
He had won gold in the 4x200m relay at Tokyo 2020.
