Benzema dreams shattered

Dimitar Berbatov doesn't believe Man Utd have a chance of signing Karim Benzema because they are not in European competition.

He told Betfair: "Despite United being linked, Benzema will want to play in the Champions League and I think he still wants to play regularly. He's very similar to Cristiano Ronaldo in that respect. He wants to win trophies too," Berbatov told Betfair.

"It'll all come down to what Ten Hag says to him but in the end sometimes the Man United brand and badge is sometimes all that needs to appeal to some players.

"I think Benzema would get more game time at Chelsea because Nicolas Jackson is still finding his feet and is still missing chances. Also, it'd be in London and sometimes you want your new surroundings to be in a big city like that.

"Arsenal would be a very similar move because he'd be able to chase Champions League success. He'd also be able to play regularly because Gabriel Jesus can play out wide. Benzema would like playing for Arsenal because of their style of play.

"He has an interesting choice to make but right now he'd probably choose to move to a London club."

Goalkeeper's union

Manchester United No2 Altay Bayindir has praised the club's goalkeepers.

“We have good team-mates and everyone is positive every day. That’s the most important thing for us," he told the club's website.

“All the goalkeepers, their character is very nice. We are always positive. Of course, we are fighting [to be] on the pitch, because everyone wants to play with the team in the stadium. But we have a good energy. It doesn’t matter who is playing, because we will, of course, support them every time.

“Team spirit is very important, you know? If we are doing this, we can be successful in the game, it’s very important. I think if we’re always doing that, we can always go up.”

CEO's Guardiola tip

Man United CEO Omar Berrada once recommended Pep Guardiola to Liverpool.

However, the Spaniard was on a sabbatical when the Reds job became available.

For me, [Pep] Guardiola would be their ideal manager but he said he wants to take a year off".

Thomas Tuchel has poured water over claims Matthijs de Ligt could be set to leave Bayern Munich in the future.

Man Utd and Arsenal are said to be interested in the Dutch defender.

“We’re planning with Matthijs, top player and top guy," he said on Friday.

"Matthijs came back injured from the national team, missed all preseason. We played him too early in the Supercup, then he got seriously injured again."

Sunderland boss Michael Beale has said the Black Cats want to bring Amad to the club.

“We’ve made it really clear to them that we would be in there but Man United really value him as well. He could have an interesting second half of the season in-house but if he was to go out on loan, I can assure you, they are well aware we would want him to come back here," Beale said.

Man Utd have been dealt a blow in the chase for Jean-Clair Todibo.

Nice's sporting director Florent Ghisolf has said the defender won't be leaving the club in the January transfer window.

"We want to have stability, and stability is keeping your best players," Ghisolfi told Get French Football News.

"Jean-Clair and Khephren Thuram are definitely that. We absolutely want to keep them."

Man Utd could pay Casemiro £20MILLION to leave Old Trafford in the summer, according to reports.

Man Utd legend Rio Ferdinand labelled West Ham fans calling for David Moyes to be sacked "disrespectful" and "ridiculous".

Speaking on TNT Sports, he said: "I can't believe it, I need to speak to the fans.

"What are you really expecting, what are you asking for from David Moyes?

"I've seen disgruntled people not happy with David Moyes and asking if he should be changed.

"When you look at [it], they won a European competition last year, they've spent the £100m from Declan Rice exquisitely well - fantastically well - they're all playing in the team and doing well and they're sixth in the league.

"You have to be realistic sometimes. I just think it's disrespectful even to be asking about David Moyes now because I think he's done a fabulous job here and I think you can't ask to have it all.

Martial truth

Anthony Martial's agent has shut down rumours the striker has been exiled from Manchester United's first-team training.

The Daily Mail claimed earlier this week that the forward has not been involved in sessions since his last appearance on December 9.

And they stated that Martial will not be selected again until his fitness improves.

But the Frenchman's agent Philippe Lamboley has rubbished the speculation.

He said: "Anthony will not leave Manchester United and will stay until his contract ends in June.

"What is said about him is completely false.

"He was not excluded from the group and he has no problem with the coach.

"Anthony has been in Manchester for nine seasons and if he was not a great professional then he would not have been at the club for so long.

"He is simply going to undergo a small operation on his adductors, which he should have done for a while and which did not allow him to be 100 per cent, so he will do it now.”
