FA Cup roundup: Maidstone stun Barrow to book place in third round
National League South side Maidstone stunned League Two high-flyers Barrow by coming from behind to reach the FA Cup third round for the first time since their reformation in 1992.
Bivish Gurung’s 74th-minute winner secured a 2-1 upset for the sixth-tier hosts at Gallagher Stadium. Barrow, who sit third in League Two, led through Ben Whitfield before Sam Corne levelled.
Danny Collinge earned National League club Barnet a second-round replay against League Two Newport with a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Rodney Parade. Shane McLoughlin put the Welsh club on course to progress before Collinge pounced from close range a minute from time.
Horsham, of the Isthmian League Premier Division and reinstated in the cup after Barnsley’s expulsion, had their dreams ended by a 3-0 loss at Sutton following a second-half double from Luton loanee Dion Pereira and a late Omari Patrick strike.
However, there were shocks at Priestfield and Adams Park where League Two sides defeated third-tier opponents. Macauley Bonne scored against his former club as Gillingham overcame Charlton 2-0, while Morecambe won away to Wycombe by the same scoreline courtesy of goals from Eli King and Tom Bloxham.
